One of the psalms you would hear at Great Vespers on Saturday nights in an Orthodox parish:

It is called the Anaphora- which is the part of the Divine Liturgy when the offerings of bread and wine are consecrated. As the liturgy is sung- these are Eucharistic prayers. There are actually stopping points in the anaphora where the priest and deacon will say prayers and then the choir/congregation responds (the words in the song you're listening to here).

A Mercy of Peace, a Sacrifice of Praise.
And with thy spirit. We lift them up to the Lord.
It is meet and right to worship Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the Trinity one in essence and undivided.
Holy, holy holy, Lord of Sabaoth; heaven and earth are full of Thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of the Lord. Hosanna in the Highest.
Amen.
Amen.

I discovered this topic relatively late so I hope these songs haven't been posted before but I love the sound of Tenth Avenue North. Both these songs give me chills and I find that I can relate to them better than most contemporary worship music.

If you know any bands out there that have a similar sound, I'm open to good recommendations!

Psalm 50/51
Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me.
4 Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sight—
That You may be found just when You speak,[a]
And blameless when You judge.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to You.
14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
The God of my salvation,
And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.
16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.
18 Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion;
Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
With burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.

This is a Macedonian band called Anastasia singing Psalm 137.

Psalm 137: By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.

3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

4 How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?

5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.

6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

7 Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.

9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

^We sing this psalm during lent. Patristically, dashing the little ones against the stones is a metaphor for overcoming your sins.

Thanks for sharing as you do and the church choir inclusion was a nice touch, because they also sound great. It's a Blessing if you have Truly found like-minded, Spirit-filled lovers of our Father and His Kingdom to surround yourself with. I found this track whilst researching the feature film based on the life of visionary Hildegard Von Bingen. I'm glad I did

Chesnokov's Salvation is Created as sung by the US Army Chorus. It's the best rendition on youtube, by far!

This is simply one of my favorites.

And- this is my last post here at ATS. In the end, this is the most uplifting thread I've participated in while here. These forums obviously aren't a good fit for me. There's too much negativity, and I've seemed to come on the receiving end of some of it. I don't have time in my life for internet drama, so I'm moving on. My thanks to those here who've actually been decent, Christian or not. May God guide you to Himself.

Then feel free to check in here still to cleave with the things that uplift, that help release the negative that is inevitable exposed in a fallen world. Take a break and maybe see you again, in following your inner prompting
