Yep!

The business world can thank Masonry for the term ' being black balled'.

It's a reference to being voted against in masonry.

The term "Esperanza" on the right could indicate that it is the Esperanza Lodge in Fullerton, CA. There is also on the left a sign that says "FE" that is the symbol for Iron but I'm not sure how that ties in yet. I will continue to evaluate.

This may have already been answered but "Fe" in Spanish means "Faith"

The skull and crossbones do not necessarily belong exclusively to the Yale club.

The skull and crossed bones is used primarily in reference to the knights Templar... Once again I think some of the other masons on this board could enlighten us more on the subject...

In my interpretation it's a reference to our mortality, and our limited time here as humans to complete goodly and benevolent works for our fellow man. The only guarantee in life is death, therefor we must spend our time here wisely and take the time to spread charity through out the brotherhood of man... Because in the end we are all going to die.

I would love to join a Lodge.

From what I understand they have a long history and that includes a lot of teachings.

My only goal in life at this point is knowledge, I want to learn as much as I can.

But that pesky "god" requirement keeps me away.

I'm spiritual, but not religious.

looks staged to me, everything seems set up. Like someone else said, it seems theres just too much going on in the small area the pic covers to be in a room somewhere and being used,

If you read the thread..... It's a museum exhibit.

So it is staged.

All you need to believe in is a supreme being as a power greater than yourself, and so it's a god of your own coneception/understanding, which would be spirit of the universe or whatever. Their idea is that if there's a design, then there's a designer, simple as that.

I feel this photo is a display of sorts portraying the hierachy of the lodge. This would explain the overabundance of symbolism and memorablia. The hoods over the characters were just used to cover the heads of the dummies.

It is just strange how it happens that pretty much all of the richest men all happen to be masons, and their wives happen to belong the Order of the Eastern Star.

How about a link to stats proving your assertion? I mean such self-evident truths must be supported with easily-located proof, should they not?

As to the hat.... Well we kind of have a thing for funny hats. Reminds me of the Flintstones lodge hats.

I'd agree that it's probably a gag gift, Loyal Order of Water Buffalo and all that.

I thought as much...

When my good friend in the craft was installed as master I got him a ten gallon top hat As a gag... Big hit with the brethren since he wore it to open lodge at the next stated.

I did not see it mentioned in the posts, or I missed it, but
The crank mechanism in front of the altar is a thumbscrew.
Nasty device

The loopy looking thing is a leather strap to hold your arm in there.
This tool was used in the inquisition and also in witch trials. Old Old old.

I don't know whether it is a thumb-screw or a vise, but I do know that it is mis-placed...it doesn't belong there at all because it is not a Masonic working tool.

What you are calling an Altar is actually the station of the Worshipful Master.

In most Continental Lodges the Altar is placed where this is sitting.

No , it is a thumbscrew, I have seen others. The strap holds your arm in there tight and they put your thumb or fingers in the notch and crank it down. It is a terrorism/torture tool used to get the truth out of people. Out of place or not, that is what it is.
