The parliament may well ask whether the government actually wants an independent DPP, particularly given the involvement of Labor MPs and Labor employees in matters before the court to do with allegations of corruption, defamation, assault and paedophilia that have involved Labor MPs or their employees. There is a particularly pertinent point, given that The Australian newspaper carried a report on 5 December — just this week — which states:

The South Australian Director of Public Prosecutions wants several politicians and political staffers to give evidence in the state's highest court to dispute claims of paedophilia in high places.

Balson was charged with naming Labor MP "Bill D'Arcy as a man facing child-sex charges on the Internet" in July 1999. At the time D'Arcy faced fifty child-sex charges including rape and was sitting in Parliament as the Deputy Speaker supporting Peter Beattie's minority Labor State government. (D'Arcy presided as acting-Speaker during discussion on paedophilia in Parliament in 1999!) Balson is the only person to have ever been charged under an obscure 20 year old Act, unique to Queensland, that prevents the naming of a person facing child sex charges before they are committed to trial. He was acquitted by an Ipswich Magistrate 9 months after being charged and arrested.
Enemy of the State

According to SA police, The Family, a gang of up to nine homosexual men, was responsible for the abduction and rape of up to 200 boys and the murder of five people during a 10-year reign of terror between 1973 and '83.

The first person killed was Alan Barnes, 17, who disappeared on June 17, 1979, while hitchhiking in Adelaide. His body, which had been washed and redressed, was found a week later on the banks or a reservoir. nip>

The body of Neil Frederick Muir, 25, was skilfully dismembered into 43 pieces and found in a plastic bag in Adelaide's Port River on August 28, 1979.

The final death was that of Richard Kelvin, 15, the son of a prominent Adelaide newsreader.
A court heard evidence Bevan Spencer Von Einem had kept the schoolboy captive in a drugged state for up to five weeks before killing him.

Von Einem, who maintained his innocence and refused to nominate anyone else involved in the death. was sentenced to a then SA record, 36-year non-parole period. Paedophiles in High Places

OTHER SUSPECTS

#1. Eastern suburbs businessman. Visited von Einem after his 1984 conviction. Interviewed in late 1983 and denied involvement in the Kelvin murder.

Has also denied knowledge of the other murders, despite an informant telling police he saw him with von Einem and an unconscious Alan Barnes on the night Barnes was abducted in June 1979. Refused to answer questions when approached as part of the cold case review.

#2. Former Adelaide doctor who is well known in gay circles. Former lover of a well-known Adelaide lawyer. The pair used to pick up, drug and abuse young men. Known to have supplied drugs to von Einem and suspect 1 which were used to incapacitate hitch-hikers. Lives in Sydney and refused to answer questions as part of the cold case review.

#3. Former male prostitute who is a close friend of von Einem and suspect 1. Police have considerable information that implicates him in picking up, drugging and sexually abusing hitch-hikers. Believed to have been with von Einem and suspect 1 when Kelvin was abducted, but has denied this. Now a bus driver in Brisbane, he fled Adelaide shortly after the cold case review was launched. THE Supreme Court has heard claims that Adelaide's notorious Family murders "were really about making snuff movies".

Anti-child abuse campaigner Malcolm Barry Standfield allegedly made the "snuff movie" claims in 2004, during a private conversation with South Australian Premier Mike Rann's now chief of staff Nick Alexandrides.

Standfield, 67, and fellow campaigner Wendy Utting, 39, have both denied criminally defaming two politicians and two senior police officers by claiming they were pedophiles.

"(Standfield) told me that over the weekend he had been somewhere at Wingfield, he said, and that he was speaking to a bloke, as he called him, who had given him information," Mr Alexandrides said.

"(The man) had told him that the so-called Family murders . . . were really about making snuff movies."

The "Family murders" centre on the deaths of five teenagers in Adelaide in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Two of the men named as pedophiles in a fax allegedly sent by Utting and Standfield in April 2005 briefly testified in court yesterday afternoon.

A serving MP said he had "absolutely not" been involved in any kind of pedophile activity and denied ever using an alias.

... I think that this is still very much an issue. The above event is recent, how is it that 4 out of the 5 witnesses are dead and nobody thinks it is strange? How is it that cases are dropped by the DPP when there are witnesses?

Why when I updated my personal information with the DPP did I start getting harrassed and intimidated?

Too many corrupt People in power, I am afraid to say. Only one person was been caught with respect to the 'family' murders... what about the others? Those people who have got away with these crimes obviously still have enough power to pervert the course of justice and kill off, threaten witnesses or even dismiss threats.

My abuser threatened me, that if I ever told anyone, I would be killed. I was brave enough to speak out anyway...he also said he had 'friends' in the police force...regardless, I spoke out and told everyone I could and what happened? The DPP dropped the court case even when there were two witnesses. He obviously has friends in the DPP too and the individual in question is on the system with a long list of complaints/allegations...

why is it that Australia does not have a National database for these kind of offenders? Why is it that in Australia, you cannot name and shame them? We have had high profile cases...such as Liddy, a Magistrate that eventually was locked up. Prior to that, the bastard had the authority to throw out thousands of cases!

Why the hell are these bastards protected? The obvious answer is that they are part of a group of people who have the authority to pervert the course of justice and friends of a feather flock together.

There are Doctors, Lawyers, Politicians, Police Officers... what the hell chance has a victim got against this level of corruption?

oh and this doesn't just happen in Australia... it happens everywhere.... how the hell is it that worms such as these get in power, have any power to form 'networks' to get away with murder?

why can't we have this informtion available to us in Au? Why the hell are they being protected? Why when there is enough information/evidence do they walk free? Even the penalties are far greater in the USA... here in AU they get a slap on the wrist, a good behaviour bond, an anklet, public housing, pension etc etc.

I am seriously thinking of moving to the US. People are allowed to have guns, it is a constitutional right. Not so here...we are the disempowered Country... even to get a firearms licence it is like pushing excrement uphill... what is the gov frightened of? that People may take matters into their own hands and deal with things quickly and effectively? It would sure as hell sort the wheat from the chaff.

It all depends on where you live. Some places here your kids can play t the park across the street with little concern. Others you wouldn't want them to play in the front yard alone.

In my area we feel pretty secure and comfortable. But we also know that if your driving through our town and aren't from around here, you are likely to get pulled over.

The group in Adelaide South Australia has been there a very long time.

You mentioned 1973, try going back another 100 years. I have traced it right back to Donald D's era.

Parties with under age boys. Then they have a retired judge do an inquiry and the Judge is a Free Mason and can't look at you when you hit the nail on the head. He spent an awful lot of time avoiding eye contact. I saw a lot of nails hit on the head that day.

Going back to the fifties and sixties and beyond there were the take away children. Go to an orphanage and order weekend takeaway! Remember this, the Catholic church is up to it's neck in this and controls elements within the SA Police Force. Good luck! Don't go to Federal Authorities, they do not want to get involved.

The move was political suicide for Lewis and the media/parliament portrayed him as a person who spoke with out evidence and tarnished the reputation of SA. One of the informants was a convicted paedophile and that means cannot be used in court or is not reliable.

Of course a convicted paedophile would know other paedophiles and have information and yet, the laws further protect the others...it almost seems to be a case of, "well if one of the group are caught, then whoever that is, will not be able to provide other information on any of the rest"

The Mako link I provided in the above post provides a very good chronology of what happened and it is so obvious how they managed to ridicule Lewis to the point he resigned.

Derryn Hinch went to jail for naming on radio paedophiles... it is so backward.

Rationally, one would have to question the level of protection of convicted and unconvicted paedophiles...

It suggests to me, fowl play.

Lewis did not resign, he was forced out. The last straw for the establishment was when he screamed at the Police Minister and ordered him to apologies. The reason Lewis got upset was that the Police minister was fabricating lies and demeaning a witness to a murder. Lewis had all the facts that the Police Minister had so he knew with absolute certainty. I know because I made very sure the Speaker of the House had the material. The Establishment could not possibly allow an honest person to remain as Speaker especially one that supported members of the public over arrogant politicians.

That should tell you how highly placed are the Family. They are as high as you can go.

They have got a wider area to operate in now though so this isn't limited to SA anymore.

MP named just recently publically (the asshole had the nerve to show up in parliament even after the charges were made public), even so, that is a win for the public and the victims.
