France: Military Action May Be Needed In Syria

Everything here has to be such a dramafest. Ok its really simple people. This is a way to encourage Assad to follow the peace plan and not go on another killing spree. Although I think Assad knows the West has no interest at all in getting involved in Syria. Anybody with even a very basic understanding of geo-politics can see that. And Russia does not have the will or the ability to go to war for Syria. Its not even an option.

Let France go do it then. Leave the US out of it. Really, the oil rich arab league needs to step up and handle their own problems.

As far as the USA goes, letting the Arab League handle the Syrians is a win-win situation, best of all worlds.

USA wouldn't have to send troops, wouldn't have to get involved in yet another unpopular war, and would be able to sell weapons to the entire Arab League coalition, and probably to the Syrians as well.

Russia has already pledged to protect Syria from outside intervention but that does not seem to deter France. This is quite a strange time to release a statement on the subject with President Sarkozy behind in the election polls in France.

Although conspiracy theorists on this website seemed to think Obama would be looking to jump into a conflict to extend his presidency without leaving office, perhaps it is indeed the French PM who is turning to this tactic. I also find it strange how a government which banned the burkha in public is suddenly quick to jump to the defence of a nation of people from that same ethnic and religious background.

Typical actions of a man wanting to hold on to power for as long as possible without taking into account the huge loss of life that would well ensue on top of those already subjected to death and torture.

It truly is a sad world we live in.

A conflict with Syria (or anyone else) would NOT extend Obama's Presidency without an election. Wartime is not an excuse not to hold elections in the USA. There were elections during WW One, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War 2 and Afghanistan.

The only thing for sure is that all parties are in a lose/lose situation. It's sickening that we even have to experience any of this. Infuriating.

The amount of investment in nuclear and biological weaponry countermeasures by russian federation suggest otherwise.It will be mighty stupid to start a war in syria by NATO.Already ,NATO is supporting the sharia law freaks in Syria which is bad already.

That is a good point. Infact in conventional military sense, I have little faith left in Russia. Trying to match whole of NATO and US, tank for tank and plane for plane, does not make any sense. Russia has to keep its nuclear and WMD programs at top level and even exceed requirements to be on the safe side.
