These pictures were taken by a friend of mine in the high desert of California as well, last September. Absolutely stunning colors! We get some awesome sunsets out here.

You won't see radiation, but I suppose it's possble to see solar radiation heating effects on the clouds. The earth did get some heating from repeated solar winds recently. A few formations in your pics that look unusual are Lenticular clouds, they often form downwind of mountain ranges.
