Firstly, I tend to agree in principle with the whole idea of ancient alien intervention, and I really enjoyed the ancient aliens series in the early
days, it was a good show to sit down and watch and keep an open mind. However, as has been discussed at length previously, it has, in many peoples
opinions, slid down the toilet recently, and has become a bit of a mockery.
The main reason for this is probably due to its' own success. A continual push for ratings etc etc.
I did a bit of digging around the history channel, and came up with this:
The channel is clearly more for entertainment than it is for the pursuit of knowledge. No real surprises there.
I also looked into the academic backgrounds of a few of the presenters. I used to think they were all really credible, as they spoke with passion and
conviction. I know Tsoukalos comes in for a lot of stick, (the previous post by the OP that opened with "let err rip" still makes me chuckle half an
hour later), but I do like him. Trouble is, do I and others like him because he is credible, or because he is reliable. Take a look and fish out the
info on his academic qualifications:
Same for Hatcher Childress:
And as for Erich von Daniken! enjoy!
Unless I have missed something, not much academic stuff to go on, but noone can deny, a lot of passion and conviction.
I have kind of burst one of my own bubbles here, and will never see the series in the same way again; or am I wrong?
(will not be getting the Tsoukalos hairdo now either!)
