Is global warming just hot air? World temperatures have risen by just 0.29C in the last two decades

New data reveals the planet isn't suffering from global warming after all.

World temperatures have remained almost stagnant in the last two decades, new figures have revealed.

The figures on global temperatures were published by Environment Minister Gregory Barker in a parliamentary answer to Tory MP Anne Main.

The figures were unveiled as an environmental guru and maverick scientist admitted that he may have been ‘alarmist’ about climate change.

James Lovelock, who warned that billions would die before the end of this century and only the Arctic would be fit for human habitation, said: ‘The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books – mine included – because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn’t happened.’

Daily Mail

As James Lovelock, one former doomsayer who predicted we would all be dead by now says "it hasn’t happened".

I used to be a believer in global warming. Then I realised it was just a trick, with largely made up 'evidence', to invent new taxes.

I've always had this thought in the back of my head that global warming was more of a tax increasing ploy than anything else.

I mean how else would they increase prices of road tax etc. in UK!

It's simply disgusting how they try to manipulate the people.

The thing that annoys me about this whole mess is that there are legitimate environmental concerns that urgently need to be addressed and they are getting stifled by this bloody stupid debate.

I fear that when this whole mess is over, all we will be left with is a precedence that any environmental action invoked by a government will just end up as another tax grab.

Seriously....when was the last time you heard a Minister of Parliament call the house to address the growing garbage flotilla's in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans?

There has been substantial evidence mounting lately against both anthropic warming and warming threats in general. The Berkeley studies, which concluded that the 'Earth' is indeed warming, but just the land, and after you factor in the entire Earth [land + oceans], there has been negligible change in gross temperature, which this number seems to reflect.

I have never been convinced in the first place, though. Most of the arguments put forth were based on ignorance of solar weather and astrophysics. Those who vigorously defend it usually have either 1. a personal stake in the matter [financially, like Al Gore, and climate scientists wishing to keep their discipline relevant so it's not co-opted by the harder sciences like physics or geology], or 2. wish to expand the size of the state.

I think global warming has been wswitched to climate change to update the cold weather effects as well.

Science has been taken over by politics and public opinion and corporations defending practices...

The left preach global warming/climate change is caused by human action.

the right preaches that human caused climate change does not exist, but that climate change is indeed occurring, this article supports heating is happening.

Personal observation is we had no winter this year, personal observation is that summers seem much more hotter than when I was growing up.

The message being preached depends on where there funding came from.

James Lovelock said billions would die by the end of the 21st century, and the remaining couples would be in Antartica.

OP has it wrong.

I'm of the opinion that the supposed stabilizing effect over the last 15 or so years is related to geo-engineering.

What is being said is it's more due to a lot of small volcanoe eruptions, but until data confirms this, I'm not buying it.

I could be wrong.

Perhaps we are operating in a negative feedback loop that is being excited by some outside force still unknown to us. The outside force could be solar radiation or other forms of energy from sources we are unaware of.

For example, human CO2 production could be growing at a rate that cancels what would normally be a global cooling trend.

It's not solar radiation.

That has been in decline for twenty years...

Oh yeah, maybe that should have been mentioned in the OP

Anyone still capable of critical thinking will say ITS A BIG FAT CON!

If its true that man is the cause of the minute increase in temperature lets see the following happen.

NO MORE CHEMICALS ON OUR FOOD AND FARM LAND.

MAKE PRODUCTS THAT LAST FOR TWENTY YEARS.

If man is realy the cause of GW then the above two actions would help far more than carbon tax,

Carbon tax, what a joke/con. Are we supposed to believe it'll be ok so long as we PAY!!

A field of wheat/Corn etc uses all the carbon within a meter of the ground in just FIVE MINUTES. So by growing crops we can use up all the excess carbon AND feed the world.

I've said for the last 10 years "remember when environmentalists actually cared about environmental issues OTHER than global warming?"

Whatever happened to Greenpeace? We used to hear about them several times a year on the news going after major environmental issues, such as attacking the Rainbow Warrior, etc, but now we hardly ever hear about them.

The only time we hear any news about the environment is when it's linked to Global Warming, it's like every other
environmental concern has been swept under the rug.

Seriously, how many more of these threads are going to pop up?

I love it when ignorant people make up headlines like this and then try to pass them off as the truth. Must be easy to stay in the cave and stare at the wall.

A Google news search for Greenpeace gives at least 20 articles on the group just from today. Couple times a year?

As for the Rainbow Warrior, it was destroyed by the French 25 years ago.

Read the news much?

Another thing that needs to be noted, is you can chop up a graph with troughs and spikes to get just about any result you want. The real measurement would be taking 20 year intervals, each year, and averaging out the total fluctuation.

For example:

1992-2012 difference +
1991-2011 difference +
1990-2010 difference +
1989-2009 difference +
....
=T

T divided by N

= much more accurate figure

Seriously, if your level of evidence amounts to an ad hominem attack, is it any wonder that people are not buying the global warming scam anymore?

Scientists in Revolt against Global Warming

As more and more scientific evidence is published that debunks global warming, the enforced consensus is ending.

The Royal Society, Britain's premier scientific institution -- whose previous president declared that "the debate on climate change is over" -- "is being forced to review its statements on climate change after a rebellion by members who question mankind's contribution to rising temperatures. ...

The society has been accused by 43 of its Fellows of refusing to accept dissenting views on climate change and exaggerating the degree of certainty that man-made emissions are the main cause."

Wouldn't 0.29C or any increase for that matter, be considered warming? If you said there was a 0.29 decrease then it would not be considered warming.

This phenomenon should never have been called global warming in the first place, that was a bad choice. Climate change is a better choice but not right either. The problem is extremely real but the names they gave it were poorly conceived. Well, who expects a scientist to make up a good name to give to the general public "The wrath of mother nature" or "Freya's revenge" would be better.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that even small fractional increases in temperature affect things very strongly worldwide? And this rise if .29c should be alarming, actually?
Sometime ago I was reading in a science magazine that even a global change of 4 degrees in average temperature suddenly, would cause complete extinction and massive damage...

I have come to the conclusion that the more intensely or lengthy any subject is covered by mainstream media, the better chance it is to be exaggerated. And the global warming / climate change phenomenon is perhaps the best example I can think of.

Are temperatures going up on average? Probably; a majority of evidence seems to support this, but so far either the rate of predicted change has fallen way short of previously thought and / or the predicted effects of the change have not come to fruition.

The temperature of this planet has been wildly fluctuating since it was created, and this was long before the Industrial Revolution, the invention of the automobile and the birth of Al Gore. It's happened before; it will happen again, irregardless of how 'green' we become in either philosophy or actual reality. We will adapt, and we will survive.
