Mobile Carriers Lobby Against Cellphone Location Privacy Bill

Cellphone companies are objecting to proposed California legislation that would force them to publicly report the number of times they turn over cellphone location information to police and federal agents, arguing that it’s too burdensome, and would take time away from the important work of sharing customer data with cops “day and night.”

At issue is California’s SB 1434, a bill that would prohibit carriers from turning over locational data to police without a warrant.

The movement to erode your personal freedoms are on the rise again. The current, and past, administrations simply do not want to go through a legal process. The article states that staff are working day and night to provide law enforcement what they need to protect the good citizens. Exactly how much of that is related to actual criminal activity is anyone's guess as it appears law enforcement only answers to itself. The phone companies are the real enemies here, they should be standing up for the rights of their customers instead of succumbing to such pressures. If the phone companies are really that over burdened then maybe they should hire some folks to preserve privacy and adhere to some controls.

This quote says a lot of where the true intentions lie

why are cellphone companies fighting their costumers and the people of the united states to keep the ability to remain anonymous while turning over your information to the government.

there are two forces at work here. the people of the united states and the government. which by declaration are supposed to be one and the same.

and cellphone companies can't have their cake and eat it. is your loyality to your costumers who turn over their hard earned dollars for your product and service, who keep you in business, or to whoever shows up and with no legal authority and wants info without telling you what for.

that's the whole purpose of warrants. and if someone shows up trying to find out where i am during the day, i would hope they'd have official cause and a warrarnt so that various people would know and look after my safety and interest.
