I tired to put a list together of Muslim countries that have banned the Burqa, but then I realised that pretty much all Muslim countries have oppressive and murderous regimes.

"Pretty much all" is not an argument. You have to list at least a few if you're going to argue like a 8 year old.

Iran has an Islamic regime. They have an oppressive regime. The same goes for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. (see, now your argument is 10 times stronger).

However, Indonesia, where the largest population of Muslims live, has no oppressive regime. Neither does India where a lot of Muslims live as well. But there's no oil in those countries, correct?

Of course that has nothing to do with Islam.

Ow wait, now you're implying that I'm minimizing the issue, ie. being a Muslim apologist...right? You're a joke. In the other thread that was made clear, and now in this one as well.

History is history, mate. Not a lot we can do about that now and there is no value sliging mud, when you have plenty of your own. The only difference is "my peoples" actually progressed and developed, where as "yours" went backwards and regressed.

When you say "my peoples", you are feigning superiority. Because you are ignorant of history. "Your peoples"(as in Britain a few hundred years ago) ravaged, pillaged and raped nations off their resources to get where you are. "Your peoples"(as in racists with superiority complexes) are dumber than a rock, and it will become apparent as time passes. Because, lets be honest...how many of you are the intellectuals of tomorrow? And how many of you are football hooligans of today, who's children will be football hooligans of tomorrow?

PS. it was your governments that put these repressive regimes in power in, for example, Iran. British people had Iranian people on a pedestal and were very respectful of Iranians when the Shah was in power. The better educated people, that is. There was no progressing or regressing until those regimes were put in power by "your" government. (It's not your government really)

Lots of mineral wealth and some oil (enough to invade for?) in Indonesia.

The report said the authorities used excessive force against peaceful protesters in these Indonesian provinces, where a low-level separatist insurgency has been going on for decades.

Elaine Pearson, the group’s deputy Asia director, said attacks on religious minorities and police violence in Papua “got a lot worse in 2011.”

“The common thread is the failure of the Indonesian government to protect the rights of all its citizens,” she said.

The report said senior government officials, including Minister of Religious Affairs Suryadharma Ali, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi, and Minister of Human Rights and Law Patrialis Akbar, “continued to justify restrictions on religious freedom in the name of public order.”

Incidents of sectarian violence “got more deadly and more frequent” last year, with 184 cases of religious attacks in the first nine months of 2011, the rights group said. Churches as well as Ahmadi mosques and communities in various places came under assault.'

They could be connected. However, 95 billion is a bit on the low side if they are printing trillions just for the hell of printing trillions. Besides that, I believe that lately there is more of a focus on minerals that can be used to produce technology.

The 2011 increase in religious violence could be linked to many things. In my opinion, they should eaves drop on the religious meetings to see which religious leaders are the cause of the violence(for the sake of those who are preaching against the violence) And if there is a conspiracy, maybe those religious leaders can lead the authorities to the actual hate- and violence mongers.

Oh totally, it's a drop in the ocean, but only while paper money means anything. Once that's gone, who knows?

Definitely. But there's such a tedious familiarity with the pattern. Protests/revolt/NATO spread democracy/banks swoop in.

That or I've been hanging around ATS too long and have become too cynical.

That's horrible.

The voters kicked out the conservatives, yet the conservatives are still making laws. What a way to spit in peoples' faces. Disgusting. what's even more bizarre if you look at Aceh's flag. It has a scale on it, but things aren't balanced at all it would seem. It's good that it's just a province and not the whole country, lets hope that never happens.
