The Americans in the Catholic church have a right to freedom of religion under the US Constitution.

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

The Americans in the Catholic church have a right to freedom of speech on this matter.

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

I'm sure you are ... it's 'just' the Constitutional rights of Americans who are Catholic after all ... right?

No not at all. It's just...so ridiculous, because the Catholic church has so much influence all over the place. But it's never enough, is it?

The Catholic church in the USA thinks it's full of Americans who have a constitutional right to religious freedom. They think they are Americans who have a constitutional right to freedom of speech to speak out against their rights being violated.

What you fail to mention is that people had to fight the Catholic church for centuries to get a hold of religious freedom.

yup...they killed people that didn't follow catholic teachings....you republicans ever hear of the dark ages?? please go read some history

What we have here is a president who has "ended the war on terror" and made friends with the muslim brotherhood.

At the same time he's starting a new war on catholocism.

Anyone else see a problem with this?

It's 'just so ridiculous' that American Catholics want their freedom of religion and freedom of speech as promised in the US Constitution?? Okay. If you say so.

Does the catholic church presumes to speak for all churches in USA?

Had the catholic church yet again lost its directions, to seek for further adherents of blind to join its fellowship? ' Pay unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and pay unto the kingdom of heaven what belongs to the kingdom of heaven'. That had been a teaching by the Messiah.

Also, for the catholics that had been so eager to make use of Paul's teaching, know full that Paul ate pork, drank wine with the corinthians too, and excused it away as his earlier pagan learnings of 'while in rome, do as the roman do'.

What had the catholic church done for centuries that it deserves to be repected as a moral force to be respected today, if not just another religious faith amongst multitudes? Look in the mirror first. If the catholic church had done well, abortion, gay marriages, etc would not had even been necessary.

The catholic failed, the rot had began ages ago, something which they could have stopped, if they had been rational and less greedy and bootlicking to the corrupt, and now seeks to lay blame on an administration that is trying to limit the damage done over wasted centuries?

Protestant churches had long acknowledge the mistakes made and are trying to rectify it rationally and compassionately. May the catholic church look into the mirror and return to the fold of the sincerely and humbly faithful.

Remember ALWAYS, the revered Constitution by all starts with the preamble - ' For the People, by the People'. Dare the minority catholic church DARES claim it represent ALL americans?

If not, best it solve its internal conflicts and woes internally, be a shining example/role models of good behaviour for others, outside of the secular stage where the People resides, instead of being yet again colluding with the elite and political power hungry to impose its will upon citizens, before it brings more shame and condemnation to the catholic faith in general.

Yea just glaze over the countless people murdered by the church just because it happened 500 years ago. yes lets just ignore the fact that they murdered 50 million people in the dark ages. More than any War. So that would make the church more evil than Hitler! think about it

And where do you get that from? They have never said that.

Also, for the catholics that had been so eager to make use of Paul's teaching, ...

Irrelevant and off topic. Your disagreement with Catholic teaching doesn't matter.
What matters if the US Constitution and the fact that the Obama administration is
trying to side step it.

So the American Catholics who want their Constitutional rights are supposedly claiming to represent all Americans? Where exactly did they say that?

before it brings more shame and condemnation to the catholic faith in general

Dude ... seriously .. WHERE are getting this stuff from. The discussion is the US Constitution and the fact that a group of people are upset that the Obama administration is trying to take away their Constiutional rights so they are calling for public protests. You think that them protesting for their rights brings them 'shame and condemnation'?? Seriously?? That is really bizzare.

1 - The number of people murdered by the church are not 'countless'. The numbers are in the 10s of thousands who died due to the crusades and the dark ages. Even if you throw in Catholic countries going into South America that number still doesn't go above 100,000 people.

2 - What happened hundreds and even a thousand years ago in Europe are IRRELEVANT to Americans calling for their Constitutional rights to be upheld.

yes lets just ignore the fact that they murdered 50 million people in the dark ages. More than any War.

YOU are ignoring the fact that they did NOT murder 50 million people in the dark ages.
You are making up bunk. Absolute garbage that isn't true.
BTW .. the 'dark ages' were from 500 - 1000 AD.

Seriously dude .. go read a damn history book ... and reread the US Constitution. :shk:

“It would be sad if it came to priests or lay people or bishops being led away in handcuffs. What could be a sadder moment in the history of our nation than to see Catholics arrested for simply refusing to compromise on a central moral principle of their faith?”

Sad indeed. Although has happened before.

Berrigan brothers were on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List and did serve time in jail/prison. But that was 40 years ago. War protests. From the National Catholic Reporter

And these nuns protested the Iraq war.

And Dorothy Day was arrested first in 1917 (in front of the White House), for protesting womens exclusion from voting. Catholic Worker

And the 1st Ammendment to the Constitution states;

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Yeah, you're right.

That whole "freedom of religion" thingy in our constitution is just taking up space.

Got any white-out?

Anyone besides me see the hypocrisy of the Catholics complaining about their rights when they
seem to have no problem taking away the dignity and sexual rights of young boys and then covering it up.

You're confusing individual actions with a religious tenent.

um, fail.

I guess you're okay with the government dictating what a religion, any religion can do or not do, then.

The cover ups weren't individual actions. It was a systemic operating system.
