Oh jeese, does this mean I got a legit reason to go hit the bars tonight? I don't have to wait for December to get drunk. Thanks for the excuse, I gotta go see if the wife will buy it.

Well it's been May 20th for most of the rest of the world. It will be that in an hour and a half here on the east coast of the US...........

Anything happening yet?

I'll check back later in the morning. See if anything has screaming headlines.....

So there was a 5.1 quake. Big deal. Those happen all of the time.

There are about 4 M5 quakes each day on average.

A M6 happens every 3rd day on average.

Quakes happen all of the time. There are 13,000 quakes of M4 each year.

Thanks
I was just letting him know that there was actually a bigger one in the same area he mentioned.

Also, it's not always just about how normal or average the size is, it is the location as well. In january, there was a 5.3 quake that was widely discussed in the same area:

in.reuters.com...

Tonight (or a.m. there), there was a 5.1 and a 6.0, minutes apart. That is more notable, I think, than a 5 or 6 in Japan, Indonesia, or somewhere like that, just because it happens less frequently. So, while you are absolutely correct that quakes that size are common, I think it's really the location and averages for that area that should be paid attention to. If there was a 6.0 on the New Madrid, that would definitely be more important than a 6.0 in the South Pacific, because of its location and history.

No major earthquake, but that riot in Montreal was rather epic.

Not too much destruction, and it didn't last very long. But the molotov cocktail made it worth mentioning.

What if a big one happened while you...
Would that mean there was a relationship?

Did I say that out loud? Never mind.

That's funny. Americans get busted for making their own craft beer days before the NATO protest in Chicago for "Molotov materials" and you guys actually get to toss one.

Lucky.
