I haven't reworded any of this, as there's no need, it's just shocking. Taken from today's Avaaz newsletter:
secure.avaaz.org...

Uzbekistan's dictator is forcing doctors to cut out women's uteruses without their knowledge or consent to promote 'birth control' across the country. It’s a vile and bloody crime against women being orchestrated by an odious strongman, and now is the time for it to end.

Karimov is one of the world’s worst dictators, he’s even boiled opposition activists alive. Yet he’s propped up by millions of dollars from the US government, which pays him for military transport across the country. The latest round of brutality against his country’s women has turned the global spotlight on this monster. Let’s use this awful moment to persuade his biggest backer to ditch him.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton can reinstate military sanctions and push the US and other powers to lift any and all support. She has already publicly condemned Karimov for human rights abuses, and this most recent assault on women's rights -- a topic she champions -- only ups the stakes.

I used to think Hillary was good.
But I know from wikileaks cables that she does her best to appear to champion human and women's rights but she's ok with child rape and starving people to sell Monsanto.

Don't expect the state department to do crap unless there is some way they can make a sell of weapons, GMOs or crowd control to someone to make it worth their time.

Wow, suprised I haven't heard of this guy before, he's seriously bad news :/

Come to think of it, why have we not made a concerted effort to completely eliminate dictatorships? I can't think of a single country run by a dictator that is actually a decent place to be?

"The international community[who?] has repeatedly criticized the Karimov administration's record on human rights and press freedom. In particular, Craig Murray, the British Ambassador from 2002 to 2004, described widespread torture, kidnapping, murder, rape by the police, financial corruption, religious persecution, censorship, and other human rights abuses. This included the case of Karimov's security forces executing prisoners Muzafar Avazov and Khuzniddin Alimov by boiling them alive in 2002.[25]"

"According to refugee detailed accounts, some 400 of the 500 killed were said to be driven deliberately into a trap – authorities had blocked all the exits from Bobur Square with Armoured personnel carriers, preventing people from dispersing home. Instead, they drove the crowd into a closed street, Chulpon Avenue, where snipers and police shot to kill. It was these scenes of deliberate killings that prompted eyewitnesses to allege that troops not only shot to disperse the demonstration, but to summarily execute anyone who took part in it."

oh...this is why he's still around

"Uzbekistan was used for extraordinary rendition and for the air base in Karshi-Khanabad. Murray wrote a memoir about his experiences; Murder in Samarkand, retitled Dirty Diplomacy in the United States.[26]"

Another person here who knows nothing about Uzbekistan. I looked at the wiki article www.ask.com... and became more and more depressed. Read as much of it as you can stomach.

By the way (and just to fan some flames) the President's first name is Islam and the population is 90% Muslim. I have heard that Islam treats women differently from men, I hope this isn't one example of it.

Unfortunately...
That's not the only place this happens.
Only difference is no one is forcing them... :-/
