Incredible images capture surreal disaster zone

Twisted wreckage thrown against the pastoral countryside, surreal scenes of the elements of everyday horribly juxtaposed, a world exploded yet eerily calm in its chaos. The photos are at once deeply disturbing and uncomfortably captivating. Rich colors, uncanny detail and stunning skies brought out by high dynamic range imaging techniques draw the eye in ever further. These are the work of American Toby Marshall, some 24 photos that created a stir while on display recently at the OAG House (German Culture Center) in Tokyo.

Guess I'm the only one insensitive enough to say it.

Welcome to last year...

Seriously though, why so late? I've seen amazing photos of the aftermath a week after it happened. Also, whats so good about the surreal HDR effect? I prefer my photos to look real.

It pains me that humanity is going towards this direction in this day and age.

It is not really late but we are Guest in this Country
and we need to show grace we are not this Type of Monsters
who confront the Society immediately after the Disaster happened!

This HDR Effect may help to see this Catastrophe with a different Mind/ Angle?
I do not know but i think this Photos are Immense in their own metaphorical Language!

One of the best Tsunami Haikus are from the Emperor:
The Tsunami took everything,
only the blue, calm Sea remain

Wow OP. As a photographer, those pictures are pretty moving.

I like the one with the cat.

High Dynamic Range photography is a technique where you take two or more photos of the exact same thing with different exposure settings and combine them. Some cameras have an HDR setting (such as the Sony NEX-VG10) where it will automatically take a few pictures in quick succession and combines them automatically into one. Its sometimes used if you are photographing a scene with uneven lighting. For example if you snapped a normal picture the subject might be properly exposed but the rest of the photo is over or under-exposed. HDR is when you want to see it all. ..at proper exposure

Thats amazing. Pictures are really the only thing worth trying to save after such disasters, after life of course. Pictures bring the memories and memories last forever.

Thanks for the pics.

amazing shots - ruined by cheesy HDR, i hate that sh!t it really detracts from the power of these images.
