DARPA releases cause of hypersonic glider anomaly

phys.org

The Hypersonic Technology Vehicle-2, launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., atop a rocket and released on Aug. 11, 2011, was part of research aimed at developing super-fast global strike capability for the Department of Defense.
The vehicle demonstrated stable aerodynamically controlled flight at speeds up to 20 times the speed of sound, or Mach 20, for three minutes before a series of upsets caused its autonomous flight safety system to bring it down in the ocean, DARPA said in a statement.

MACH 20? Really? Wow, unmanned fighter craft and missiles doing mach 20 is insane.

The failure was due to the skin. Wow. Still, controllable flight at mach 20.

A gradual wearing away of the vehicle's skin was expected because of extremely high temperatures, but an independent engineering review board concluded that the most probable cause was "unexpected aeroshell degradation, creating multiple upsets of increasing severity that ultimately activated the Flight Safety System," the statement said.

Here is a video of the failed test.

Whats that, 20,000 miles per hour for 20 Mach?
Sound is 1000 feet per second.
A mile is 5000 feet.
So 20x sound is then 20,000 feet per second for 20 Mach.
Divide by 5 for 4,000 miles per second.
If the Teslaship exists, Tesla said his ship went 300 miles per second.
There would be no air resistance as I understand the physics.
So that hypersonic glider is faster than the imaginary Teslaship.
ED: Also no harm to crew at altitude drops or 90 degree turns.

Not quite. Mach 20 is just under 7 km per second.

This had to be what was heard over San Diego.

The exact value depends on the temperature.

The article gave a ground speed of 13,000 mph (just under 6 km/s) at an unspecified "high altitude". Mach 20 is roughly 13,000 mph at -70c.

The test was last year, from the article linked in the op...

You might wanna go over your figures again!

mach 20 = 6 805.8 m / s

That would be 13,000 miles per hour, or 20 times the speed of sound.

I would hate to see a nuke on this thing, then again it may just run out of gas and fall into Iran as the drone did.

Water suits can give humans the ability to withstand many more positive g forces than normal.

This flight is autonomous, however, Astronaughts in orbit have travelled this fast, and regularly travel at speeds of 15000 miles per hour. I'm rounding numbers for simplicity, but you get my drift... I hope.

Not true of the imaginary ship built for Tesla by Germany, and now US and Russia at least,
carries the crew safely. Would Tesla say his passenger airship could go 300mps and not
say everyone would be in perfect comfort. Well that is classic saucer performance.

On the matter of high fliers we can see often in the skies above that leave frozen trails as
they pass above. They have to be maned but hard to see the ship yet must be going fast
to cross the sky in a matter of minuets at such a high altitude. The ship does look going
slow because airlines on landing go past from view in a minuet.

ED:
www.google.com...
speed of sound at sea level = 340.29 m / s
amazing to as the Tesla airship speed is the speed of sound
never caught on to that before
some researcher me
my bad again the m for meters, 300 miles per second for Tesla
airship and no harm to crew and 90 degree full speed turns
and high speed altitude drops and assents
www.google.com...

1125 feet per second
So 10% off cause I said 1000 fps so 20Mach = 20,000fps
like I said 10% off

slowly move a body to any speed you like, changing direction is beyond any wet suit technology at +M7

My Land is called Fact Land.
Stick to your facts all you want.
I see your fact land very clearly.
But you can't see mine but its not a dream.
But I do need a good oxymoron joke.
Say how about all the anti Tesla technology given us by the technology
cartels and US government... they the morons but what about the people
going along with their word.
