China mocks India's 'missile delusion' after rocket launch

A state-owned Chinese tabloid adopted a mocking tone as India entered the small club of nations with intercontinental nuclear weapons capabilities yesterday by test-firing a rocket that can reach Beijing and eastern Europe.

Footage showed the Agni V with a range of more than 5,000km blasting through clouds from an island off the east coast. Named after the Hindu god of fire, it is the crowning achievement of a programme developed primarily with a threat from China in mind.

The official response from Beijing was measured, with China's foreign ministry saying the two countries should "work hard to uphold friendly strategic co-operation".

But the Global Times, owned by the Chinese Communist Party's main mouthpiece, the People's Daily, struck a less conciliatory tone, saying India was being swept up by "missile delusion". "India should not overestimate its strength," it said before the launch, which was delayed by a day because of bad weather.

The Indepedent

This 'official' Chinese reation is rather typical of the Chinese who look down on the Indians.

To even directly compare China with India insults the Chinese.

This response is expected. Oficially they want "friendly
cooperation", unoficially they change the tone.

They can't look worried to their people.

They won't be mocking when India puts a boot in their ass. Yes, I do believe that India would put a boot in the ass of China. I apologize to all of you "fear the wrath of China" proponents out there.

Good for India.

On a side note. I've stated a few times over the years here at ATS and elsewhere. The world will become more dangerous not less with a growing multi-polar world.

Beware....

Well, as China and India have a history of animosity it would be surprising if India did not develop such capabilities. Over the last few decades there have been several border conflicts between the two nations and China still claims significant portions of India’s territory – e.g. Arunachal Pradesh, to name but one.

China has a great PR engine which likes to convince us that China is a peaceful nation, based on love and joy and all that – something that many on these very Boards lap up without question. However, the evidence shows a different face to China, where aggressive territorialism, bullying neighbours and internal repression is the modus operandi. Look to the bullying behaviour over the whole of the South China Sea, invasion of Tibet and of course their periodic trespassing into India.

There is a reason why China is sucking up to Pakistan, India’s arch enemy Pakistan.

Regards

I like the part about the launch being delayed due to bad weather. At least we can take solace in the fact that our mutually assure distruction won't commence if its raining. The nukes will obviously only fly if its sunny out.

The independant, what a load of rubbish.Where is the original translated article? India and China are friends and business partners and are members of B.R.I.C.They are all signatories of the Shanghai Treaty. Not that the Western propaganda departments would tell you that or the fact that not only could the missile could reach China but it could also reach continental U.S.A or Europe.Nope won't tell you that.Yet they will spread absolute crap about N.K.
So why no sanctions for India? For the exact same thing ?
