Lawsuit: Former Bain execs fired employees for not being Mormon
By David Edwards
Wednesday, April 18, 2012 14:51 EDT -- The Raw Story

It looks like they're trying to connect Romney to religious discrimination !!

It looks like a "semi-direct" connection just the same.

Let's take a look:

Former executives from Bain Capital, a company founded by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, have been accused of firing six out of seven members of a management team for not belonging to the Mormon church.

David McCurdy and four other co-plaintiffs are suing Sorenson Capital Partners (SCP), Care Holding Co., Care Senior Living, and SCP Care Acquisition because they say the private equity firm fired them from their jobs at Care Senior Living because they were not members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), according to Courthouse News Service

“Despite the promise of 5-years employment, in mid-November 2011, after only 7 months Plaintiffs were told that their employment would be terminated effective February 2012,” the lawsuit (PDF), which was filed in federal court in Oregon, states.

“During their tenure with Defendants, Plaintiffs learned that SCP strongly favored hiring, employing, and doing business with other members of the LDS Church,” the suit continues. “SCP partners, in particular Curtis Toone and Mike Scott, made comments about religion and questioned the beliefs of Plaintiffs and other employees.”

The plaintiffs are asking the court for relief because the “Defendants’ decision to terminate Plaintiffs’ employment was based, at least in part, on Plaintiffs’ non-affiliation with the LDS Church.”

Bombshell !!

Does this mean we should vote for Obama again ?

Now we need the Obama campaign to tie in the Mormons to the economic and energy failures.

They will be blamed.

Of course.

Unemployment, economy, and our foreign policy all are tied into the Mormon cabel. (They were out to get Obama even before he became president!)

Seriously, it'll be a blame, obfuscate, distract tactic from this administration.

Can anyone shed some light on the relation of FLDS and LDS? It is my understanding that Warren Jeffs father followed Leroy Johnson who was very active and in high position in LDS. Are they the same thing or follow the same beliefs? Maybe this is the wrong place to ask but I am curious about them.

The FLDS and LDS are as the same as Westbouro Baptist Church is to The Elvis Church in Las Vegas.

In my humble opinion.

Depends on the prophets. Not along the FLDS line, though.

No, it means we should vote for Ron Paul.

if this is true, I would venture to guess, it isn't just happening with the mormons..
the business people in the church I went to in tx seemed to have employees that had their same religious beliefs.
often from the same church.
think it's kind of a religous principle. and well, if you had a member of your family needing a job, and a bunch of applicants wanting that job, wouldn't you give your family member an extra edge??
but, not so sure about firing people already hired on that premise. that would be a bold move, that would probably get the person in a bit of trouble...

Once again, we see the dangers of mingling politics and personal belief systems. Religion runs deep within humans, and of course they prefer others of their own belief system. Especially when the system of belief runs on faith, which has an unslakable thirst for validation.

The only fool-proof belief within politics is the conviction that each citizen deserves the freedom to plot their own course to happiness, whose only judgement descends when removing that right from another.

This doesn't damage Romney, really. Not even good political fodder for the Obama campaign. Other than Romney once having been at Bain and being Mormon, there isn't anything that really ties him to these events. Just an interesting footnote.

And just how exactly have any attacks on Romney's faith started? The President is not suing them, the people that they hired and then abruptly fired are.

The only people that are going to focus on Romney being a Mormon is going to be the media asking if it is important? Which for the most part isn't a factor for those outside of Romney's own party. People that may feel inclined to stay home in November rather than choose between a Mormon and a Black man.

At least it came now while Ron Paul is still in the hunt!!

This isn't Obama-sourced, because he would have waited until after the Republican Convention, and then destroyed his opponent. As it is, this news has time to blow over, and it can only help Ron Paul, but if Romney still gets the nod, then this will be old news long before November.

Maybe Newt or Paul leaked it?

So only the media, the unbiased, innocent, "no-agenda" media will be asking questions.

That's funny.

Just who is the media gonna bias? The same people that are going to vote for Obama anyway? The only people the mans religion really matters to primarily watch FOX who will be doing all they can to not mention the Mormon thing.

Paint with only broad brushes?

The media will do whatever it can to sway the vote towards Obama. He won last time with just 53% of the popular vote.

Independents are going to be the key factors in this race.

BAIN CAPITAL ..ROMNEY....AND LDS...it is not conspiracey...Bain Capital cuts LDS in on most, if not all, of it's profits.

Mitt Romney Sent Millions to Mormon Church - ABC NEWS

Underscoring the prominent, if little discussed role that Mitt Romney played as a Mormon leader, the private equity giant once run by the GOP presidential frontrunner carved his church a slice of several of its most lucrative business deals, securities records show, providing it with millions of dollars worth of stock in some of Bain Capital's most well-known holdings.

Romney has always been a major donor to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which requires that members "tithe," or give 10 percent of their income to the church. His family charity, called the Tyler Foundation, has given more than $4 million to the church in the past five years, including $1.8 million in 2008 and $600,000 in 2009. But because Romney, whose fortune has been estimated at $250 million, has never released his personal tax returns, the full extent of his giving has never been public.

Newly uncovered stock contributions made during Romney's Bain days suggest there is another dimension to Romney's support for the church -- one that could involve millions more than has been previously disclosed.

As part of just one Bain transaction in 2008, involving its investment in Burger King Holdings, filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission reveal that an unnamed Bain partner donated 65,326 shares of Burger King stock to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holdings then worth nearly $1.9 million. And there were numerous others, giving the church a stake in other Bain properties, such as Domino's Pizza, the electronics manufacturer DDi, the phosphates company Innophos Holdings, and Marquee Holdings, the parent to AMC Theaters.

The Republican presidential candidate's campaign staff confirmed that some of the stock transactions were at Romney's direction, but they would not say which ones.
