This thread was inspired by this post, where the topic of this thread would have de-railed the other.

I espouse the ideal of getting to know the mods. But.

I don't know which mods are "assigned" to what forums. I've kinda figured out that there are "patrol" areas for certain mods.

I do know certain mods "own" certain areas, as pertaining to their interests.

I am curious.

How does the distribution factor apply, or it it a carefully guarded ATS secret?

It's all nefarious really.

We all have assigned forums ( the mods ), supers kinda float around and do a bit of everything and then so on and so forth.

We never moderate threads we participate in and I *try* not to moderate certain forums that I do not at all enjoy. Everybody has got that one part of the webiste that either enrages them or bores them to death.

I tend to read quite a bit of everything though and we alert posts the same way that you would if you saw a T&C infraction.

There used to be a list at the bottom of every thread that showed who moderated that forum, but with ATS 2010 that was removed.

I would not mind seeing it come back
.

Then again you can reach ANY mod at any time by PM'ing one that is online and they can still help you by getting your request to the appropriate mod if they cannot help you.

I do it almost daily, due to my signature ( which you may click at any time, for any forum, for any reason).

As previously mentioned:

Moderators do have 'assigned' forums. [more loosely-relegated than 'restricted to', if you will]
[in the last site design they showed as such at the bottom of each forum's thread pages]
Super Moderators have Mod abilities forums wide
Admins have Mod abilities near site wide
Owners have whips, rubber hoses, a duck and a woodshed outback

*i've never quite figured out what the duck was all about, though.

Well said, thanks. Spoken like a true mod. You aren't evil deities at all, aye?

Maybe you need to define what it is you mean by participate. Otherwise I say that is not true.

I always wondered if this had changed when the names of mods... moderating went away at the bottom.

Now I think the biggest ATS mystery is why Majic is a bronie.

By participate I mean post as a member.

I use the these tags:

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

example

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Whenever I do so to make it clear I am participating. Not all mods do that though and it's not a requirement.

However if I am in a thread and see a clear and present T&C violation (pornography, soliciting, recruitment) then I can as a moderator remove that post, as there is no conflict of interest, it does not pertain to the conversation.

However I will never action the posts of a member I have interacted with in thread, as members, and neither will any other mod.

We will alert the infractions and another member of staff will take care of it.

See, even admins have a sense of humor. I'm soo glad I have to deal with a mod before the owners!

(I do appreciate the tidbits, too guys. What I want to see is a spreadsheet listing the mod vs. forum distribution.)

I actually thought that the biggest ATS mystery was who switched the coffee to decaf in the ATS breakroom.
(I suspect Carl did it though)
*Shakes fist*
Curse you, Carl!

Seriously, thanks for illuminating an otherwise unknown for me.

That right there is the Cosmic Question of the Day!?

'my l'il bronie' ... just seems wrong on so many levels ... but it is what it is, i guess.

I appreciate your address.

My experience proves the contrary. No harm no foul. I have no honest desire to delve into that.

But you keep saying 'we' as if speaking for other moderators. So I will ask this.

Are moderators fallible?

Of course, I do wrong things all the time. Mostly just wild mouse clicks; but I'm guilty of breaking the ATS rules just like any other member from time to time.

We make mistakes, bad judgements, but we work as a team and always use the consensus when we decide what the action or reaction is going to be to any particular situation.

I saw we, because we are kind of like a big family back here, we've gotten to know each other by working together every day. And I know that no other moderator would want to break the " don't action threads you are in" rule on purpose.

Again, unless some sort of really bad T&C infraction occured, in which case I would also remove whatever it was that appeared.
