Not complaining...but why? The US has bases or "presence" in several countries around the world...including about 40 different bases around Syria and Iran. Why do not other powers in the world have bases here? I have looked at this one: www.abovetopsecret.com...], but it's almost 10 years old.

Then there's this one: www.abovetopsecret.com...

NORAD is probably as close as you would get to having a foreign power in the US. at least every two years that is.

The US is the leader of the free world...

Why would, a leader of the free world allow for military influence of another who is not the leader to be present in their country?

The US defends the ability to become free, and provides means of doing so.

A combination of all the above responses...

That and because I don't see the Govt ever allowing it, they'd probably give some sort of "that would be tantamount to invasion" argument, even though we pretty much bully other countries into letting us set up shop on their soil.

but that almost doesn't make sense. Why should we (US) be allowed to have a military presence in other countries, but those countries have no presence here?

It's not very wise to mess around in the bullies back yard, that is what the the USA is right, "The Bully" of the world.

update to my post;
here is an article that everyone should read;
www.occasionalplanet.org...

here is a small part of the article, pretty crazy and scary stuff.

"When it comes to accountability, you’d probably hope that the US military would be rather exacting, right? Sorry. The answer to the seemingly simple question, “How many military bases does America have outside of our own country?” is not at all simple.

In a recent article in Asia Times, investigative reporter Nick Turse calls the answer to that question, “…the one number no American knows. Not the president. Not the Pentagon. Not the experts. No one.”

You can’t get a consistent answer from news stories, that’s for sure. Recent articles, media reports and op-eds peg the number variously at 460, 507, 560, 662 and more than 1,000. Depending on whom you ask or what source you consult, writes Turse:"

please go to the link and read the rest.

Peace

Base against whom? Canada?
All of the potential enemies are in Eurasia, what would be the point in having a base in America?

Since when does the US abide by what's "fair?"

Can someone provide a reason "why" another country might require a foreign base in the United States?

That kinda makes sense...US is surrounded by Canada and Mexico...no threats there...I think...but what if...Mexico decided that it didn't like it any more? What it Britain decided that it was gonna use Canada to take over?

Wow, the arrogance displayed in this thread is astounding. If you's all want to be arrogant, you can get #ed.

I don't even know why we allow the USA to have bases over here when you's all share this type of arrogance and dominating ideologies, looking down upon other nations as if you's are Gods.
