Well, I'll make this as simple and straightforward as possible. I'm tired of pretty much everything. I won't go as far as saying I'm tired of life, but I'm almost there. I'm a junior in high school, and this is what my life consists of :

Wake-up
Go to school
Come home
Homework/chores/video games
Go to sleep
Repeat

Before I continue, a side note : Don't tell me I shouldn't be on this website. Dont tell me I have a ''whole life'' ahead of me and I shouldn't worry about stuff like this. I heard it a million times. I'm smarter than most adults I talk to, but since my ''grades are bad'' I guess that means I'm an idiot and I don't know what I'm talking about. I guess a normal teen should be going out to the movies instead of complaining about why the scientists haven't found the higgs-boson yet. Oh well! I dont want to end up going into an entirely different topic, so let me continue...

I've realized that the only thing that will change in the oncoming years on that list is school, which will be replaced with college or work. I walk around everyday listening to these mindless zombies in the hallway talk about what was on tv last night, their GPA, their boyfriends and girlfriends, and the weather. This will go on generation after generation. This will never change. It's depressing. I have to do this everyday. I have spew out information that I can't question that the teachers have given me on a piece of paper otherwise I don't fit in the system. Otherwise I won't be successful in life. Otherwise I'm not normal. Its weird to me that I know exactly what my future will be like based on how well I "fit in". Anyways, my question(s) is this : Is there any way out? Do I have to keep doing this same crap all my life? What am I supposed to be doing here?

Ever think about joining the military? That might give you a MUCH different outlook on life

I know you don't want to hear this. But, once you leave high school it will be different. You need to find some more mature mind inspiring adults to hang around. Sounds like your grades are bad, because you are bored in school, not because you are an idiot.

Congratulations, you have figured out the secret of (adult) life. Wash, rinse, repeat. It's not too bad though, grab a soda and some popcorn and settle in, it's going to be a long ride. May I suggest you find a hobby or two, so you can keep your sanity over the long haul.

Work your ar$e off and get the best grades you can.

School isn't for making friends and socialising.

It's for learning skills that you will need later in life.

Go down to MacDonalds and have a good look at the working environment.

Would you like to work for minimum wages for the rest of your life?

Would you like to be some ones little cleaning b!tch for minimum wage?

You've no doubt, heard it before.

I'll repeat it for you and make it one million and one.

School will help you later in life.

And think.....in thirty years time....after you have made a bundle in your dream career.....You'll be on whatever "facebook" site that's cool in future.....and you'll see all the other people you grew up with.

Some will be druggies.

Some will be drunks.

Some will be skill-less losers with eight kids and wives that could do horror without makeup.

And there will be those that did well in school.....got a good job.....travelled the world....own several houses and retire young.

Or you could shoot for minimum wage.

I'd rather OFF myself right now than to take part in anything having to do with military. No offense to you my friend, but I have a problem with the military in general.

Why should life just hand you everything? Your problem is that you expect to just passively receive.

Be the changer and the doer.

People who just wait end up dying quietly with no legacy.

Your choice....

At your age life seems a little strange right now. I remember feeling the same way. Things will pan out soon. Once you start getting closer to graduation and deciding on a career you will see more of a purposeful meaning to all this. I will admit you are growing up in different times and things are more chaotic than when I was your age but you will find your niche. Just enjoy the time at hand right now because in a number of years you will miss it. As a poster mentioned, join the military, you will enjoy the travel and bonds you will make.

First of all, you are already ahead of the game with respect to your peers. There are many examples of intelligent young adults making their own way without the help of college or any other part of the "system." Use your brains to start a business. What do you like doing? What are your interests? Maybe you will have to go to college to learn about what interests you and get the proper credentials to get the door open, but after that, you write your own ticket. Most people are too risk-averse to venture on their own so they work for other people and never seem to achieve their dreams.

That's what I am trying to do now - decades later.

It seems to work for some people - I don't get it either. Whats more annoying is that if you don't follow this schedule, people think somethings wrong with you/tell you that you're wrong/call you lazy/whatever.

Its been beaten into us that "this is normal" for generations and generations, and in my mind its just a way to keep us busy and tired so we don't have time to notice whats really going on.

Psych(iatrists/ologists) will tell you to "change it up". Everyone has to wake up, do some sort of work/school, and sleep - but you don't have to come home - you don't have to play video games. Thats at least 2 areas you can make a change. Go to the mall instead, hang out with some friends. If you don't have any friends, try to find some. What interests you? Anything? If your answer is no, I can relate.... I'm not trying to solve your problem either, just presenting what I've done/heard/lived through. This did work for me, briefly.

They used to tell me (when I was your age) that it would get better when I got older too
lies.

What I do know is that life is what you make it. So whatever you want your life to be, go head and make it. You have my permission to live however you want to live.
Just be sure when you make your choices you're aware of their repercussions.

Every way of life/choice comes with problems - the trick is picking the problems you can handle.

I'm happy in my misery.

Yeah I know it's cliche to say now and is usually used for a different set of circumstances but...

"It gets better."

It gets way better. College is amazing if you're open to new experiences.

And after that you've got even more freedom. And from there on out it's just make money and spend money and do all the things you want to do with your life and don't make any apologies to anyone.

I wish those were the only problems I had right now...and I'm not gonna say that you shouldn't be here as you have been here much longer than I have...your "grades are bad" maybe cause you're bored with the materials that you are presented with? You are definitely not an idiot, by any means.

Hey buddy
You sound like me 10 years ago.. nothing has changed.

This society and way of life is relatively doomed - evolve yourself personally, and make preparations to leave.

Dear Vandettas,

Hi, I hated school and could get As without even studying. It is not about school or work, it is about living your passion and making it about more than you. I have many young men in their 20s and 30s ask me about their careers and I always give the same answer. First, do what you have to be able to be self sufficient, pay your own way. Second, pick a career that is your passion and give it your all, you can make money in any industry. Finally, and this is the easiest question in the world, define your life and define yourself. At the end of your life, what do you want to say it meant, what do you want to say you attempted to do, how much meaning do you want your life to mean and what do you want it to mean.

You have the opportunity to define your future. What do you want it to be and what is the price for obtaining it? What do you care about, you didn't tell us, you told us how you didn't want. You can run from or feel bad about what you don't want; but, as long as you are always working towards what you do believe in then it will all have meaning. Best wishes.

he's right, go to school and be someones bitch for $70,000.

better yet be no one's bitch for any amount of money.

it's nothing a beer, a lap dance and the small soft smell of a womans breast brushing against your face couldn't fix.

Thanks to everyone who replied, I really appreciate it for the sole fact that I don't hear such prodigious responses from my parents or teachers. Unfortunately, I have to do #5 on the list. I'll read more of these wonderful responses tomorrow.

I'm not in the military so none taken and I agree (though it may be a little off topic) that the military is a bunch of shady characters that do their business rather poorly. Anyway it was just a suggestion that basically said "leave." You're bored with the life you have, at the moment anyway, and a better alternative to drugs or alcohol would be the military, or any program that pays YOU to travel...

Do your schoolwork, get a good education, but see it for what it is, indoctrination in a dysfunctional system. That being said, take martial arts and find your center, learn long distance shooting (sniping for lack of a better term) as well as small arms, teach yourself chemistry, learn survival skills and teach yourself how to learn. Meaning develop ALL of your critical thinking processes. Learn as many languages as you can that are considered "enemy" languages, like arabic, chinese, korean, etc.

Then when you eventually get out of college or university and you can't get a job as an engineer or accountant or whatever you choose, at least you can fall back on a set of skills that the intelligence community can use and they always have jobs for the right "closed-mouth" people whether corporate or private sector. And hey, you'll probably get to see the world and make a good buck.

But never lose sight of who you are and the good person you really want to be.

Cheers - Dave

i am gonna disagree with most here, you are an idiot....
you say your smart but you seem to be avoiding the blunt truth, yes life can be mundane and boring as hell...if thats what you make of it.
If your so smart than why cant you see the benefit of getting good grades?
Or do you really WANT to fit in with the Mc#tyjob crowd, that must be the cool thing to do, fail in school, hope your parents take pity on you and dont kick you out when your 18, im guessing drugs are involved only becasue it has been personal experience that smart kids with bad grades are usually high. (and i usually dont mind being wrong)
You can attribute whatever you want to being a poor student, say its because your bored, tell yourself your better than that, come up with some reason not to face the fact that YOU are the only one too blame for your future position as head dishwasher... but until you "learn" from the mistakes of those who came before you or experience it for yourself your just gonna sit there and whine about it, blame everyone else for your problems and take out your frustrations on the people who deserve it least...probably the ones who you owe the most too.

You want some advice, here it is...

you cant change the world until you change yourself first. You have this thing most people call "free will" and i dont care what you attribute it to but unless you start using it and stop waiting for someone to make changes for you...you had better get used to powder coated gloves and grease stains on your favorite clothes.

On a lighter note i REALLY do feel for ya, and i feel the same way every(GD)day for the past 30+ years, almost like i was not meant to be here in the first place, but wishing for a change will not make it so. there is a game afoot because of all those who came before you who decided to let it go on. you can get in the game and change it from within or just go get me a fresh coffee!
