It's a weed that grows everywhere. A weed. However, it's a weed that give us canvas, rope, oil, food, fuel, even packaging -- it's literally a sort of panacea -- that freely grows out of the ground...a colossal threat to industries everywhere.

They want you paying for this stuff, not growing it freely out of the ground.

Interesting thread, I believe money and power are the two factors that corrupt and hold us hostage. Take the energy problem. I have researched the problem of cars getting very poor gas mileage when in fact they have had the technology to get much higher efficiency on any vehicle on the road. Unfortunately the oil industry has chosen to sacrifce our ecology as well as our economy in order to gain billions and billions of dollars lying to the world's citizens. I think initially governments like ours were formed in order to provide a sensible way to govern the people then somewhere along the way that idea was hi-jacked for the purpose of gaining power over us and in turn controlling the flow of monies. If you don't believe me take a moment to check out this website and others like it: www.helium.com...

This is just one example that leaked out of their vault of secrets.

Its an age old question.

Did the system evolve naturally or was it an act of creation?

History is written by the victors and it is clear the victors don't want the masses to look to hard at the details.

Roll the dice and choose your speculation.

We could all collectively stop paying taxes at the exact same time. I'm sure THAT would get someone's attention and ruffle a few feathers.

We actually have more power than we think, and we can exercise that power collectively with money. Stop using banks, stop buying garbage manufactured in Chinese sweat shops and live as naturally as possible. If voting at the ballot box changes nothing, then perhaps voting with our checkbooks will..

Please if you would; describe the replacement system you propose and exactly how it would work? Speak to things like:

- Infrastructure
- The Rule of Law
- Governance of large populations.
- Defense against enemies.
- Manufacturing of products.
- Distribution of products.
- Trade
- Schools

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Not sure if this has been included...

Grants to conduct research. Research doesn't happen without a grant to pursue it.

Look at the Polaroid. Way back then, they managed to create a "flash-cube" that worked because of the film components. The flash cube ain't special, it's how to power it that goes unnoticed.

If we need something, we are equipped with everything; but the funding to research and develop what it is we need.
Polaroid in 1947

So, what is keeping us from our potential is the permission granted to us...

The actual conspiracy is that the Captains of Industry have contrived a little sandbox for us all to be conditioned to play in, while parroting the lie that we are free, and that no such box exists.

This is evidenced by how difficult it is to step out of that box - which can be done, as a few individuals have done it. Therefore, the box does indeed exist, for people have stepped outside of it. Look at how monumentally difficult it is to step out of that box...there is a reason for that: we are going to play the game they set up, whether we want to or not.

Now is the perfect time for a phrase I give to people who ask me, in polite terms, what the heck I'm asking all these questions for. Or for those who think I'm just plain weird:

Unless you think/explore outside the box, how can you know the box is blue?

...or whatever color.

The horrific irony here is this:

We are conditioned to think material "things" are what brings happiness, when in reality, it's the things that are free that hold the most value. Things you don't pay for. They don't want you seeking these things, because then you're not buying stuff. Cars, and houses, X-Boxes and iPads have to be somehow drilled into our brains as valuable - when in fact, they are worthless, replaceable things.

Things like love, friendship, ideas, connections...other people. These are the true things of value, as they are priceless. You don't pay for them. Yet, because of conditioning, many people believe that happiness can be bought and found in things that are replaceable.

This false sense of value is by design and I find it particularly psychotic.

Exactly right, Blaine.

(This was a really entertaining thread, and I spent a lot of time reading this when I should have been doing other work, so the OP gets a star.)

But I would be remiss in my duties as a member of ATS if I didn't voice strong opposition to the argument, which appears to come from a very pampered and insulated viewpoint. There is a lot of naivety expressed herein.

The reason that things exist the way they do is mainly to reduce pain and avoid death -- two very common aspects of nature that humans have dedicated a lot of their time and existence to accomplishing. Pain avoidance is a very worthwhile goal. I guarantee that, in certain situations, you will agree with me 100%.

The system could be improved, for sure. But it isn't any conspiracy I can see. We are all cooperating to improve our situations and evolve the human experience. In particular, Government might be the greatest invention of mankind, followed closely by our economic system. My opinion.

I am sure you will benefit a lot -if you haven't already- from delving into Antonio Gramsci's concepts of "hegemony".

Gramsci was a marxist thinker of the early 20th century, founder of Italy's communist party and put in jail for contesting Mussolini's fascist party.

His great contribution to the history of ideas, was precisely the concept of hegemony: that is to say, the way that the elites impose their worldview, values, and conducts into the 'lesser' classes, so as to make them act and comply with a worldview without them even questioning it, because of this "way" of things being so evident.

This represents not only political and economic control, but also the ability of the dominant class to project its own way of seeing the world so that those who are subordinated by it accept it as 'common sense' and 'natural'. Common sense, suggests Geoffrey Nowell-Smith, is 'the way a subordinate class lives its subordination'. In this framework, hegemony becomes a straightjacket for the mind, our mind.

Keep on thinking the way you do, mate! And really, really read Gramsci. His ideas are fascinating, enlightning and liberating.

Great thoughts! I have had similar views on History & Economics, American Government, because all were VERY interesting to me once I did my own personal research (and horrible in school) etc but I just thought I was naturally missing the cognitive abilities to understand higher level math...now I wonder, because the only time I did decently was when my 5th grade teacher explaining alternative methods for multiplication and long division... now I don't trust myself enough to do it by hand and I never memorized all my times tables. That's the problem, so few people learn by memorization. However, your overview is broader than I had imagined and intriguing.

It isn't even people can't though, it is if they would be able to let go of this entire sham. I could, it would be rough but I could let go of modern technology and live off the grid as long as I had freedom & love. (and sadly, probably a man, I after all am quite tiny) I hope we can accomplish more than that though so it won't have to come to such an extreme.

I need to learn to sew, to garden, to hunt even... oh and to finally get some REAL protection. besides my 2k watt tazer ha

The idea of us being programmed, fed.enslaved and watched by the BIG BROTHER is been the favorite topic of a lot of authors, filmmakers, musicians and free spirited people, starting at 1940's right thru the 60's and 70's...Author.George orvell,Musicians Pink floyd and,Supertramp, along with many other artists from that era ,had a lot of interesting things to say,..things very similar to this generations concerns and concepts of reality...But the question was and always is, that what would be the alternative to the status quo?....can we just leave people to themselves,to just do whatever they want,or will it be law and order?...if so, who will be capable enough to apply the rules, and based on which system and under what authority?....is capitalism or socialism the way to go? or maybe Islam is the answer? how about kabalism or Naturalism?...and these questions that we never really had a rational solid answer to it continue to amaze us to the present day...what do you think would be the ideal replacement to the current system?

I think the answer to this is that we humans are incapable of governing ourselves.

Maybe that's the reason we have aliens in office...no pun intended, Obie.

Because everything is JUST PEACHY, right? Because there are no more racial tensions, right? Because, clearly, we are deftly and swiftly implementing solutions to the much bigger problems we face, right? Because things are changing so rapidly for the better as is, now, right? Because the way we are all living now is the way human beings were meant to live, right? Because being a slave to your power bill, and grocery store, and insurance companies is "clearly the way to go," right? Because Albert Bartlett is clueless and doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to the exponential function and finite resources, right? Because Carl Sagan's a fool when he says it's dangerous to be reliant on things we ourselves do not understand?

Let's continue on, and just stay the course then, and see what happens, shall we?
