We all find inspiration in a multitude of places, they may be god, some book, our parents, leaders, and so forth. Mine, it is music, music has always
been there... all I have to do is 'hit play'. Growing up(ages 12-18), many of what others have drawn inspiration from was not always readily
available for me. But I always had my Walkman and some head phones.
Granted, I have listened to a variety of artists, but there is one that sticks out above the rest. In fact, I would dare to say that he is above the
rest. This dude is so EPIC with his style and swagger, that it makes Jagger look like a hermit. His lyrics have undoubtedly lead to much of what I
research, what my interests are, and my ability to compose poetry and rhyming skills.
Who is this artist, that I give such merit... Atmosphere(group), Slug(artist) aka 'Sep Seven', aka Sean Michael Daley.
His apparent philosophy on life, and the way in which he expresses it certainly represents my very own thoughts and opinions.
I was never really 'depressed', but had a rather disgusting view on how life works, and how to address it. But, after years of listening to his
music, this gradually changed.
I am not creating this post to share my story, nor advertise Slug as one of the greatest artists alive... Rather, shedding some light as to an escape
that others may use(music) in order to finding some happiness.
"Godlovesugly"
Im gonna creep through the night And put a plug in the spigot
And when the water grows And the dam starts to overflow
Ill float atop the flood, holding on to my ugly
God Loves ugly
"Scapegoat"
It's women, it's the plight for power it's government
It's the way you're giving knowledge slow with thought control and subtle hints
Which in the ends with this... poking fun at scapegoats and himself, saying that it's everything and everybody's fault but his own, lol!
It's on your face and it's in your eyes
It's everything you be Cause it ain't me, mother******, cause it ain't me, uh
"Trying To Find A Balance"
They love the taste of blood
Now I don't know what that means, but I know that I mean it
Maybe they're as evil as they seem
Or maybe I only look out the window when it's scenic
....
(Chorus)
In the days of Kings and Queens I was a jester
Treat me like a God, oh they treat me like a leper
You see me move back and forth between both
I'm trying to find a balance I'm trying to build a balance
"Tears For The Sheep"
And when the smoke evaporated and the damage was assessed
The casualities were counted as they looked upon the mess
As they focused they eyes on the horizon, who'da guessed?
All that stood atop the hill was number seven silhouette
"Nothing But Sunshine"
26 years of age, no longer full of rage
I think it's safe to say I've turned a page on my childhood days
"Ay yo look Ma, I'm a productive member of society
When I'm drunk I make noise, but otherwise I live quietly"
And on the weekend I go back up north to reminisce
Remember what it was like pretending to be a kid
Ahhh man, I can't even begin to explain how much that song resonates with me.
I've always had a lot to say, and often times I said it
It's the words that I've never said, that I have regretted
Indebted to a nature, verse nurture ever since
The truth's in the light, but when I stare at the sun I wince
I will part with a music video for the song "Guarantees"
From the epically titled album "When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That **** Gold"
