This IS what kids need today. Perhaps not as extreme (some would think oh that's still just horrible of me.).

Let me tell you.. for thousands of years kids were brought up in the wild and they either lived or died. YOU are here today because The Strong survived. I don't think it's such a bad thing our kids get a taste of this. It could only serve to help them in the future - if any were traumatized and left in a sadder state, it would only be because that's how society has conditioned us. Kids growing up in the wild didn't have such issues to deal with from over protective parents or society.

No, it's not what they need. Why do they "need" this? Even in our history, adults looked after children. I know perhaps you believe movies like 300, where they just toss the kid out in the snow wearing skins to fight a wild animal, but no.. humans actually have always been very protective of children.

I grew up in an abusive household. I ran away many time, lived on the street - slept in a gas station restroom with the heat from a hand dryer to keep me warm at night. Grew up in a harsh group home in a rough neighborhood. Did it make me tougher? Better? No.. it caused me issues my entire life. It made me wiser, mature for my years - but I'd have happily traded that for a home with caring parents, holidays with relatives, and all that goes with it.

I can only guess you've had no such experiences in your life. Saying this was a good thing? You are truly off your rocker. There are other ways to "toughen up" than to wander lost for 7 years. You are heartless.
