Kids get bored, kids kill time. So as long as there's kids on this planet, kids will rhyme.

For decades, if not centuries, the youth have aimed to set themselves apart from the norm. To say you've never felt this desire is to say you were never young. People have their reasons for being who they are or wanting to be who they aren't.

The whole damn country has been having an identity crisis for about 200 years. The music is relatively new, but the mentality is about as central to the American psyche as baseball and apple pie.

If you're so concerned for your fellow American, be concerned about the "thugs" on Wall Street and in Washington. The guys sitting behind the mahogany desks are about as "gangsta" as it gets. I wonder what music they listen to.

As many have said, bad kids and gangs have been around for some time, but in a different type of world.... kids fight, its natural, but todays music is popular, in movies, sporting events, everywhere its glamorized and drilled into our head that, that is what makes life great... get drunk, and high and hang with the homies, go steal a suv, have sex with multiple people in one night, orgies! LOL It would be ok if there were no children on this planet... cause adults CAN decided right from wrong... but when these young people are growing up... their brains are literally still growing, taking in the scenery, trying to figure out life.... With thug rap music in their ears everywhere they turn... So that is what they know, that is what they become... its a shame... its out of control and it will never end....

I was involved heavily in the Underground Hip Hop scene in the early 90's here in L.A.

I was a DJ then "Producer". I "made beats" basically.

We had what was called 'conscious rap' vs. Gangster Rap..

You had groups like Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jeru, EPMD, Public Enemy, etc.

Then you had groups like NWA, DRE, Mac Mall, Mac Dre, E40, The DOC and crew..on the 'gang' side.

Hip Hip was different then. It was about beats being tight and lyrics being thoughtful...RAKIM for example.

Along came the "bling" commercial rappers like JAY-Z (who used to be underground at one point) P-DIDDY, LIL KIM, and all the East Coast people.

It was okay then but becoming a joke. Lets' face it, TUPAC and BIG E SMALLS were commercial hype, sorry.

Then came Southern "Atlanta" styled rap, which is through and through GARBAGE. And it gained wide commercial appeal, though I have no clue HOW. That stuff is garbage.

Now, most Hip Hop is East Coast drug, thug or bling rap,OR 'dirty south' spawned GARBAGE.

As an expert in Hip Hop culture and history, I feel the worse the Hip Hop is (the more gang or thug related) the more the "Hip Hop" community reacts and acts negatively, mainly young black males (even though many whites buy the albums)

Hip Hop is officially DEAD because garbage rappers took over and commercialism won. Hip Hop killed itself from the inside out and will never go back to the Golden days unless some mind revolution happens.

Just a question.. What are you opinions on Willie Nelson?

Country music musician.. Check
Promotes the use of Cannabis.. Check
Promotes more than one sexual partner.. Check

He fits the bill doesn't he?

You've completely ignored the rest of my input in this thread, but the one tag line I post you respond to? I'm honestly starting to think you've skimmed over the entire thread and every post longer than the 2 line minimum you've shrugged off with a TL;DR.

Your thinly veiled passive aggressive racism has been noted. You can say 'I don't care what colour someone is' all day, but I still don't believe you and you're not helping your cause. From your first post you've made a point of saying you're not racist when no one was accusing you of being so.

You said there's no actual music in hip hop? The Herd are a 7 piece band, every sound you hear is being played by someone with an instrument, yet it's hip hop, right to it's very core.

The Herd - 2020
www.youtube.com...

Homies, SUV's, gats... All the trademarks of Gangster rap. Originating in South Central LA in the late 80's and taking over the East coast from the early 90's onwards. Gangster rap is dead, it died with ODB. But you seem to be holding onto this 90's PSA mentality that this embodies everything to do with hip hop.

An expert has given up faith that easily? What of Yasin Bey (Mos Def)? What of any hip hop outside of the US? Hip hop has evolved past it's gang related past and is changing every day. Seriously dude, listen to The Joelistics, Hilltop Hoods, Bliss n Eso, The Herd, TZU, Drapht (Apologies for focusing mainly on Australian hip hop, but home is where my heart is).

The thought rap that made Public Enemy the prophets they were is not dead, it's just changed, taken on a new form.

Don't side with this close minded fool.

"Thug Life" was an idea created by Tupac Shakur. It means, The Hate U Give Little Infants FXXks Everybody. It was meant to raise awareness about the youth, the ghetto youth in particular. It means that if you hate the children and show them no love they grow up to be horrible people. Please do some actual research on the subject before posting such ignorance.

Ill tell you what's wrong with this country, its ignorant people posting threads about subjects that they are clueless about. Crotchety old men and some woman who control from the top down is also what's wrong with this country and the world honestly. Perhaps you need to research music from the 1900's that talk about sex, drugs, and killing. It is at times just as bad or worse as some of the crap that gets played on all stations. You might want to put some of that blame also on Tell Lie Vision and the sheep that watch daily.

Rap music pushes youth to make that money, cause in the day in age, working a regular job isn't enough anymore. Some kids get the real message rappers are trying to put out there, some just see the glamor.

Now, he may not seem like the best role model, but the lyrics are real. Some drug dealers are thugs aren't bad people, they just get the money by any means cause it's hard out here.

As far as willie nelson smoking pot? i dont believe he has gold teeth and talking about stealing peoples Sh**.. or calling women hoes and bit****... You didn't come here with an open mind seeking opinions. You came here blaming Hip Hop for things it is not responsible for.

I respect your right to hold your opinion, hell, I'll lay down my life for you to hold that opinion, but don't you dare think I'll let you get away with thinking it's correct.

You claim to have read and listened to everything posted, but your arrogant mind set convinces me otherwise.

As far as Willie Nelson is concerned, why is it ok for him to smoke a little weed, but when it's even mentioned in Hip Hop, it's ruining society? Reason is your friend, it's be in your best interest to listen to it.

I bet you wish slavery back aswell ? Be honest.

Eminem summed it up in one of his songs. Read it carefully

They say music can alter moods and talk to you But can it load a gun for you and cock it too? Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude Just tell the judge it was my fault, and i'll get sued
See what these kids do, is hear about us toting pistols
And they want to get one, cos they think the #'s cool
Not knowin' we're really just protectin' ourselves
We're entertainers, of course this #'s affecting our sales
You ignoranus. but music is reflection of self
We just explain it, and then we get our checks in the mail
It's #ed up ain't it, how we can come from practically nothin'
To bein' able to have any #in' thing that we wanted
thats why we sing for these kids that don't have a thing
Except for a dream and a #ing rap magazine
Who post pinup pictures on their walls all day long
Idolise their favourite rappers and know all they songs
Or for anyone who's ever been through # in they lives
So they sit and they cry at night, wishing they die
Till they throw on a rap record, and they sit and they vibe
We're nothing to you, but we're the #in' # in their eyes
That's why we sieze the moment, and try to freeze it and own it
Squeeze it and hold it, 'cos we consider these minutes golden
And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone
Just let our spirits live on, through out lyrics that you hear in our songs

But you're not interested in what rap music is. You are here to rant against a certain group of people.

It is ok to be gay. Lets not forget one of the greatest all time lead singers "Freddie Mercury" (of QUEEN) was gay. Other notables would include Rufus Wainwright, Joan Jett, Tegan and Sara, George Michael, and one of the greatest song writers of all time Elton John. I'm sure if given the chance George Strait would have never turned down a chance to record a song with Freddie. The guy was on another level, and Queen is one of the greatest band of all time.

Every genre has it's songs about sex, violence, drugs, it's not just rap. Why pick one genre to pick on?

The fact that you only pick hip hop shows your bias. Your posts are riddled with racist undertone garbage.

rap music debuted and gave birth to the thug!

LOL? rap music gave birth to the thug? Have you never of the mafia? John Dillinger? Pretty Boy Floyd? Bonnie & Clyde? They were all thugs and were around before hip hop was created. But I guess thugs are alright as long as they're white?

. i dont interact much with big city society's, all they seem to do is smoke pot and steal things....

Leave your farm every once and a while

First off this is not gonna be a rant, but rather a look of how i view the above mentioned Title.

It does not matter what race someone is when they make rap music, and try to be a thug, glorifying drugs, sex, violence, stealing, money, fancy cars, and many other wrong things that is being put in to the American society.

We have now all hear about this whole deal with Trayvon Martin, and George Zimmerman dilemma, and speaking of that, one of the best threads with lots of links and info are on this thread www.abovetopsecret.com...

I believe today's society and especially today's youth in the united states are being brainwashed by music (mostly Rap).
There is nothing to glorify when all the rappers do is talk about negative things, well things that should be considered negative... Selling drugs and riding with the homies in a stolen escalade should not be glorified and played on TV and the radio to today's youth!
I seriously think when the Constitution was made and the First Amendment was introduced they should have set limits or boundaries.. look at what has happened to this country since rap music debuted and gave birth to the thug! The American culture today is all about looking like you are cool and having gold teeth and baggie pants.. This is not cool and its only leading to the destruction of this once great nation.

I want to know your general input on this subject... Do you personally believe music, thug life and the American culture has polluted the minds of the American people?

Well i sure do.....
So we should get rid of the 1st Amendment & Rap music?

I'm pretty sure all the horrid things going on with "today's youth" has a lot more to do with crappy parents LETTING their kids listen to that stuff and watch all the sex, drugs, & violence that's on TV from a very young age than the actual music itself.

I do agree, most 'Rap music' out there is complete garbage. There are only a select few artists who I actually enjoy.

Actually,

Whats wrong with this nation, and ANY OTHER is the allowance of the NANNY STATE to raise and discipline kids that you were too excited to lay down and produce. Spoiling kids is not teachin kids, and Friending kids is not raising kids.

Rap isn't the problem. I listened to Rap as a young black male, but with active parents who cared for their progeny, and with one phrase from my father/Cop of : "if I catch you tryin to act like a thug, you and me will see how thuggish you are, in the backyard..."

I respected my parents. I recognized they are the reason i'm alive and as their investment in the future I did what I could to give them a positive return on their investment.

damn, you sound like my grandpa...
don't blame rap music. it's the same as watching Scarface...it's entertainment. u gotta be able to school the kids into understanding that most of these rappers are not really what they portray themselves to be (Rick Ross). The music industry (owned by the elite who run everything anyways) promote this 'negativity' and there are plenty of positive and decent rappers who don't get shine because they don't rap about garbage...or who might jus be garbage at rapping.

Some of these guys are who they say they are, and this type of music originates from the where these rappers come from. Don't be upset that these guys came up from outta the gutter by sharing their tales from the hood and getting famous because of it. If you don't wanna listen, then don't. Freedom of Speech and the Freedom of not listening...goes hand in hand.

Understand the people to understand the culture to understand the music.

You have to be kidding...its all rap musics fault. Didn't 'they' say the same thing about those crazy evil guys known as The Beatles with their rock music corrupting all the kids. Whenever something bad happens either music or movies usually get blamed. You can't blame the violent movie or the music, you blame the person that doesn't understand the difference between those and reality.

There are a lot of conscious and responsible rappers who condemn thug&drug rap. It seems the only people who embrace thug&drug-rap these days, apart from the artists, are white liberals.

I work with young people in my town. Most of them are into rap music or Dub step or grime. I listen to some of the Rap they play and don't really like it or the message it puches. The kids are from a town in the shires of England not the mean streets of Compton or the Bronx, so all this thug life bling nonsense they listen too is not reflective of how they have grown up.

There are however some great rappers with a great message that these kids can learn from.

What you are seeing here is the legitimate battle between intellectual values vs social valuesl - being used by nefarious interests (Frankfurt School) etc.

-Under the guise of promoting intellectual values, they are using it simply to subvert the social cohesion of the Western world, vis the promotion of biological (criminal) values.

I remember how they did it with 'punk rock' in the UK - it was never the most popular or best selling music - yet it was relentlessly pushed, hyped and promoted by the media.

That is why you have legions of liberal dupes defending open criminality, convinced that they are somehow defending freedom of expression.
