Tupac hologram performs at Coachella

There are no holograms advanced enough to project into air that would fool even a child. For those of you who think that this technology exists, well, it must be reptilian then. Swamp gas would make for an excellent media for a hologram of a weather balloon, but It would still look kind of fake. There is some technology being invented that follows the viewers head and adjusts the hologram accordingly. This might prove to be realistic looking, but only to one viewer.

I think the Michael Jackson estate will be one of the first to do it. They will target the 100,000's of people who had tickets for his London shows right before he died. I'd go to one of these shows as long as Im a big fan of the artist and tickets are cheap.

Honestly this is going to create a poor portrayal of live concert performance. I can see MC, musicians and singers using holograms (or whatever it is called) to fake their performance all the while resting and sitting at home, while their suppose "live" performance is out of country. This can become the biggest sham in live music concerts to come

I doubt it could go that far. If it does, fans would be able to make sure they were live by doing certain tests promoters could do.

if you're friend died years ago, and then you were approached and asked to do a performance with his life like image on stage what would you be like? Dre wasn't there was he? He mentions him, but I'm sure Dre said # off. ha ha, I would. If you told me that I could spend the day with my buddy t-bone who died of an overdose a few years back I would probably attack the person that was going to do it. I find it disrespectful to a degree.

That is just crazy, granted this is far from what would be needed, but I'm sure the governments have better toys.

Why not, because you believe singers dont lipsync? OR that they dont fake record (milly minlia (or whatever their called) Or that they dont sing as good as the record (auto tune). Yes the music industry is probably the greatest lie of any entertainment business, because it is a business. I am sure 90% of all super singing R&B millionaires have doubles, in case they "cannot" perform for some reason

Well, they don't really 'sing' anymore, as the computers (auto tune) do that for them now.

But yes, you have a point.

They probably have it so perfected that people standing next to one can't tell the difference.


I agree about the comment that presidents will begin using this for protection at events.

Yes, morbid in the sense that he is interacting and looking very much alive as if he werent dead. Big difference in seeing a concert that happened (as in the past) as opposed to a performance that is happening in real life time in the PRESENT. The guy is dead and yet there he is singing like he is alive and well. Thats the creepy part.

Whether or not you like Tupac (I personally don't), this was VERY cool.

There are hardly any performers in the Top 40 who could perform their music absolutely LIVE without modern electronics doing the auto tune for them.

Most Top 40 performers wouldn't be able to sing a tune without the computer doing all the work in the background.

While people like Justin Bieber etc may be good performers, they certainly can't sing.

What?! I can INSTANTLY tell if someone is lip syncing. So can most people over the age of 16. Passing off as a real person is a whole different game. Until you can physically touch and interact with a hologram, what youre saying wont happen.

I feel like I might be the only person on earth who hasn't heard of this tupac person by reading the comments. I am assuming he was a famous rap person who died. Not my kind of music, but I'll respect your tastes if you respect mine.

I'm not seeing any new technology here, but I do think it's an interesting point that politicians and such may appear like this in public for protection. Maybe the point I'm missing is this better version of holograms than used previously. These are interesting times we're living in.

Except the audio and imaging in this performance are coming from actors. A rapper named Purple Haze sounds just like him when he tries, and there are other actors who look pretty similar to him.

This tech is going to take porn to a whole new level.

Just to update: it's not a hologram. It's a piece of textured saran wrap with a bone stock DLP projector, the sort you could get at Best Buy. The image is not 3D, and it's not holographic.

Furthermore, you can't actually do a free-air hologram. It's been tried by everyone, including us. Every year, the same RFQ for free-air holographic images with back surface culling that's perspective correct and compensates for glint floats past one...more...time. And some of your tax dollars will go to the next guys that try.

IMHO this is just a newer medium of presentation, and it may open up new ways to create some nice art.

personallly you can't beat the real thing in a smallish room, with a good crowd
