Britain kicked our @sses but only retreated because of napoleons threat to thier home country.

Actually that's incorrect. Napoleon turned his attention towards Russia in 1812, with all the consequent disaster that followed for him.

Napoleon was for all intents and purposes finished by 1814, until his return and eventual downfall at Waterloo a year later. Not to mention any direct threat to Britain was thwarted by our naval victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

With the war with Napoleon wrapped up we focused all our military attention on the United States.

So no, we didn't lose because of Napoleon as you claim.

I saw this documentary 6 months ago, it was very informative. I had considered posting the info on ATS but I'm terrible at putting threads together.

Thank you for putting a decent thread together to inform the community of a little known piece of history.

Every year or so IBM used to build super computers with the name Blue in them, Deep Blue springs to mind. This is a multi-million dollar, state of the art, fastest in the world thinking piece of kit. It could run physics simulations, discover the cure for cancer or brute-force (possibly) the toughest encryption around in a matter of minutes. Instead they tune it to play chess against a human. Just about every time, it gets beaten. That's not to say it is easy to beat, they invite people like Gary Kasparov to play. But it does lose.

I think my point is, a computer is never a good General, just a cold statistical analyser of possibilities and likelihoods.

ETA Props to da OP.

I am not quite sure of the name of the latest IBM Super Computer version of DEEPER BLUE or some other name...but I remember watching a TV show about how IBM's latest Chess Playing Computer has at this point NEVER BEEN BEATEN! A Computer that plays chess is only as good as those who program it....unless it is an A.I. Quantum Computer...and in that case....where the Hell is JOHN CONNER? LOL! Split Infinity

It is not surprising that the United States had war plans with Great Britain and Canada. I suspect that they had war plans with everyone with every possible scenario that they could think of that time. Before WWII there were a lot of tensions still between the two nations. Rivalry was at a high point and the chest bumping was gong to lead to war but the Nazi's came to power and changed that.

This is a conspiracy forum the last I checked. Unless you are giving a history lesson, a conspiracy is implied in this matter, is it not?

Therefore, I say again, there should be no worries here.

However, if you are simply giving a fancy history lesson, then my hat's off and I appologize to you for misreading your intended subject.

Well if you did read it then post, why are your two first post saying things that are explained in the thread your commenting on? I just think you wanted to be the first to comment and had blurted out something fast

(joke)But I see your post' as rude, unnecessary an like you think your above and beyond everyone in intelligence, that's just what get from reading them oddly enough ooorrr just the first thing I said really

From OP: "With writing this thread here and now I want to try and take this opportunity to discuss and hopefully bring to light this another fascinating chapter in American history that people don't really seem to know very much about yet, but one they certainly should, in my humble opinion.."

To OP, good find iv never heard of this before it is very interesting and i'm really surprised I haven't heard if it before..

During the 1980's when Thatcher and Regan were in power, there seemed, at least appeared to be, some mutual respect between Britain and the U.S. However even back then due to the huge amount of Irish Americans, the U.S. government and society backed Irish republicanism, even though this backing was an indirect insult to Britain. However due to the U.S. support of Irish republicanism Britain had its hands tied and could never have attempted to invade Ireland full scale for the fear of having the states intervene militarily.
Since then and especially since W Bush took the white house, the so called special relationship, a term that British prime ministers like to use, in order to appear to be on solid terms with the worlds only superpower. There has been no special relationship. It is a relationship of subjugation. one that is often referred to as the 51st state. There was no interest what so ever in Britain joining the "coalition of the willing", the UK has far too many Muslims in it to risk angering them, and the UK had not been attacked. the only reason asshole Blair went along was due to his belief that if he did what he was told that somehow the U.K. would benefit from it, or more likely that he would benefit from it personally down the line "which he has done".

Unfortunately when Britain had an empire it should have made much better choices, however I believe the cost of running such an empire became too much in the end and thats what finished it. What empire is running out of money at the moment hahaha.

I've often wondered if this plan would have been put into effect by a facist US had it not been for Smedley Butler

In 1934, he became involved in a controversy known as the Business Plot when he told a congressional committee that a group of wealthy industrialists were planning a military coup to overthrow Franklin D. Roosevelt. The purported plot would have had Butler leading a mass of armed veterans in a march on Washington. The individuals identified denied the existence of a plot, and the media ridiculed the allegations. The final report of the committee stated that there was evidence that such a plot existed, but no charges were ever filed. The opinion of most historians is that while planning for a coup was not very advanced, wild schemes were discussed.

The Soviet Union might then have found itself under three pronged attack by a US/German/Japanese facist Axis.....With no Lend-Lease!

Channel 4 ran a documentary on this same topic last year, just after the files were declassified. It was very interesting. I can't remember the name of the documentary though, but you might be able to dig it up on 4oD, if you're based in the UK.

The plans for war, nicknamed "War Plan Red", Red in reference to the enemy which was seen as Britain at the time, were, I believe, first made around the immediate aftermath of the failed 1927 Geneva Naval Conference, a Conference which was initially set up to ironically discuss and attempt to quell any future war's such as what was seen in World War 1. The first conference in 1922 was attended by Great Britain, the United States, Japan, France, and Italy and resulted in the Five Powers Treaty, or the Washington treaty as it's also known as, and was a treaty to specifically limit naval construction and prevent an arms race of those who were victorious in the wake of the first World war.

In the 1927 Geneva conference however, only Great Britain, Japan and the United States attended, resulting in a major disagreement between the three nations and instead of creating a disarmament agreement as was planned, they actually inadvertently created an arms race between America and Great Britain in particular, as Britain, who had more of a need for light cruisers at the time, as opposed to heavy, proposed a "limitation on the production of heavy cruisers while including more freedom for building those in the lighter class." Great Britain also felt that since Lighter cruisers were useless in battle against heavy cruisers, the Unites States also had to build the lighter variety as opposed to the heavier. As well as this they also proposed a limit of 70 ships and 600,000 tons requiring the United States to quit literally build as many as thirty new heavy cruisers just to keep up with them. *

Take ole big ben out, I wouldn't cringe at that thought. (World War 1 was actually a very long war, it was also World War "2", same people involved.

America should have gone to war with Great Britan. In WW1.

American's were no great fans of the British back then and had stronger ties with Germany. There was a higher % of American's with German ancestory than anything.

The USA declared war on Germany in response to the Zimmerman telegram in which the German embassy in the US approached Mexico in 1917 with a plan support of Mexico invaded the Southern USA.

The telegram instructed Ambassador Eckardt that if the U.S. appeared likely to enter the war, he was to approach the Mexican Government with a proposal for military alliance, with funding from Germany.

Mexico was promised Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Wikipedia

After the telegram was widely reported in the US press, the US declared war on Germany two days later.

BtW they are doing a good job of invading us now without the need of the military and we aren't declaring war on Germany.

Ok well maybe I'll take the next steamboat to something more invigorating. Right now the government believes they have the power of God in their hands with technology, I have no doubt that the British were behind Hurricane Katrina and killing all of those people in New Orleans. More Americans should be yelling and freaking out so that we can have a revolution again, with some martial law against the orchestrators of this Martial law.

Wow, I just looked at the flag count. 92 flags? Really? This is a complete non-issue. People really believe that we plan to attack the UK and Canada, or that we use this as blackmail to make them do our bidding? You know, this site does get a bit nut-so at times.

So, if I want to get flags, all I need to do is find some benign document and then spin it in a way that makes the US look evil and give it a flashy title and viola? License to print flags?

Funny. Sad, but funny.

Wow, what a whiny little bitch this post makes you out to be... Funny, Sad, but True... It's not the OPs fault your threads are boring so if the thread doesn't interest you why come on?? Oh that's right you wanna have a whinge because this got so many stars and flags and yours didn't... diddums

If you'd take the time to go through the OPs past threads you'd notice how much research and information he provides in each one, arguably more so than any other frequent thread makers here at ATS, yet you instead accuse the guy of star and flag whoring

I;m sorry for ranting everyone its just I really don't get some people on here who'd rather put all there creative energies into looking for excuses to pull others down. I mean WTF people, we should be better then this by now.

P.S. I now just realized that 'Rising Against' is now a Moderator, which as now made me out as the biggest kiss arse here at ATS,
