These new words that have been added to the lexicon. They are driving me crazy.

I, from this day forward will not say:

Time-Out

Play-Date

These are made up words that I never heard when I was growing up.

In my house...

Time-Out= Was the actual amount of time that I was knocked out.

Play-Date= Get your [snip] out of this house. We just played. We never made a date.

I know these new words sound nicer. But these kids don't need nicer.

We have completely lost our "Discipline". These kids are soft.

If you have any new words that are driving you crazy. Feel free to add yours.

We need more people to step up. If you have kids raise them quit depending on society to raise em. Be a parent and not a friend. So many single parents want to try to be buddies instead of a parent. When they are older and on their own then you can be friends, until then teach right from wrong, instill morals, and love unconditionally.
Alot of people try to say that they don't paddle their child, I say you have a spoiled brat. Discipline is essential in raising a child and" time out" does not work after the age of 2 when they figure out that as soon as they get out of "time out" they can go back to doing what they were doing and all they will get is time out. I dispise when a parent is in the store and they tell their child no, then no again, and then just ignore what the child is doing. As if them ignoring it means it is not happening. Or better yet a child thnat wants something and the parent says no then the child throws a fit then the parent gets them the thing they are throwing the fit for. This is what no discipline get a parent. My children when we goto a store if I say no to something it is no. If a fit is thrown I will put everything back on the shelf where it came from and we go home and talk about it. My children do not run amuck in a store or in public, they know the rules.
We have alot of fun but there are boundaries and they are clear and concise. For every action there is a reward ....some good and some not so good. Bad behaviour gets a bad reward. Good behaviour gets a good reward. It is that simple. As a parent we all make mistakes, acknowledge them as they happen and sincerely apologize to the child. I always talk before and after the paddling to teach my child that by his /her actions there will always be accountability, and they need to understand that they are responsible for their own actions.
If parents would be parents then our jails would be alot less crowded.

Yeah but if you don't consistently use phrases like 'time out' then the kids will get confused and will look at you with blank stares, turning their heads to one side and then the other.

If you want them trained correctly, you have to train them consistently.

maybe I'm old skool but my kids never did time-outs... if necessary they got grounded (which usually meant they had to go outside and play cause I took their video games away) :X

my kids never had play dates either..... their friends just "came over" and rarely left....

I always thought (when I was growing up) that time-out and play-dates were something only rich people did.

When I was a kid, we didn't get time-out we stood in the corner, got our mouths washed out with soap, took a whack with a belt (just one usually, non-abusive), and got sent to our rooms (no video games, TV's, or computers in those days, just me and my imagination).

As for your question.... what word bugs me.... GOP bugs me. That has to be the most annoying abbreviation EVER.
There's probably more but I'm talking more than I'm thinking tonight (stupid insomnia)

OH p.s. e.t.a. et. al. acronyms - another punishment my kids got was writing. I would make them write essays or fill out a Q & A sheet so we can discuss it and/or make them do the Bart Simpson!

I will not waste chalk
I will not skateboard in the halls
I will not burp in class
I will not instigate revolution
I will not draw naked ladies in class
I did not see Elvis
I will not call my teacher "Hot Cakes"
Garlic gum is not funny
They are laughing at me, not with me
I will not yell "Fire" in a crowded classroom
I will not encourage others to fly
Treasure island
I will not fake my way through life
Tar is not a plaything
I will not Xerox my butt
I will not trade pants with others
I am not a 32 year old woman
I will not do that thing with my tongue
I will not drive the principal's car
I will not pledge allegiance to Bart
I will not sell school property
I will not cut corners
I will not get very far with this attitude
I will not make flatuent noises in class
I will not belch the National Anthem
I will not sell land in Florida
I will not sell school property
I will not grease the monkey bars
I will not hide behind the Fifth Amendment
I will not do anything bad ever again
I will not show off
I will not sleep through my education
I am not a dentist
Spitwads are not free speech
Nobody likes sunburn slappers
High explosives and school don't mix
I will not bribe Principal Skinner
I will not squeak chalk
I will finish what I sta
"Bart Bucks" are not legal tender
I will not fake rabies
Underwear should be worn on the inside
The Christmas Pageant does not stink
I will not torment the emotionally frail
I will not carve gods
I will not spank others
I will not aim for the head
I will not barf unless I'm sick
I will not expose the ignorance of the faculty
I saw nothing unusual in the teacher's lounge
I will not conduct my own fire drills
Funny noises are not funny

Those two definitely make the list.

Really, what do either one of those mean?

More words designed to "Not hurt anyone's feelings".

GUESSTIMATE! Omg, I hate that "word" wish a passion. You either guess or you estimate, or you make an estimate. You might make an educated guess. But you do not, under any circumstances, GUESSTIMATE.

SKETCH. A sketch is a drawing folks. A drawing. That is all. If you want to call someone or some place suspicious or something, you need to say sketchY. Notice that Y on the end there?

I know there are more that I'm not thinking of.

I was trying to line up some kids for a team picture a few years ago.

I needed the kids in front to sit down. So I told them to sit "Indian Style".

Three people immediately jumped in to shame and correct me.

They informed me it is now......"Criss-Cross Apple Sauce".

Give me a break.

Prolly (has almost totally replaced the word that it's supposed to be, "probably")

Freakin' (same thing as saying f- - -ing when I was growing up)

Douchebag (totally rude word when I was growing up that I hear kids all the time saying now)

If someone told me to sit down Criss-Cross Apple Sauce, I'm sorry but I would have no clue what the heck they were talking about. We grew up on Indian Style.

Apparently, I am old now!
