In a move that may as much be a warning to the Hamas leadership as it is to Syria, Israel has assassinated a operative using an explosive device in
his car. This is the first time that Israel has assassinated a Hamas member inside of Syria. This comes after statements by the Israeli government
that Hamas members would not be safe anywhere. A statement from Hamas on its website has confirmed the death of Izz Eldine Subhi Sheik Khalil and
seems to indicate that Hamas may start hitting Isreali targets abroad.

DAMASCUS, Syria - Israel assassinated a Palestinian militant from Hamas with a car bomb that exploded just after he started his vehicle Sunday. The
killing was Israel's first slaying of a Hamas member on Syrian soil and came after weeks of warnings that members of the Islamic militant group would
not be safe anywhere.
Hamas responded by suggesting it may take its fight against Israel outside the Palestinian territories, according to a statement on its Web site.
"The Zionist enemy has opened a new door for the struggle by transferring the battle outside the land of Palestine, despite the fact that we in Hamas
insisted on keeping our weapons against the enemy in the land which they occupied and we left hundreds of thousands of Zionists alone outside of the
country," the statement said. "By today's action, the Zionist enemy should shoulder the consequences of what it did."
Police at the scene of al-Zahraa district explosion were seen retrieving pieces of the body of Izz Eldine Subhi Sheik Khalil. The car exploded outside
his home at 10:45 a.m. when he tried to start it, Hamas officials said.
Witnesses, however, said Khalil, who had been speaking on his mobile phone, started the car and had just begun moving in the white Mitsubishi Jeep
when it exploded some 10 yards from his home.
In Israel, the government issued no statement, but security officials acknowledged Israeli involvement in the killing. The officials spoke on
condition of anonymity.

However, Osama Hamdan, a spokesman for the group has denied that that decision has been made. He indicated that there had not been a cahnge of hamas
policies as of yet and that the group would respond at “an appropriate time and place”This assassination comes at a time of increasing tension between
Israel and Syria. Israel blames Syria for a car bombing last month that killed 16. Because Syria provides sanctuary for Hamas, the Israeli governments
has stated that it is responsible for the groups actions. According to a press release, the Syrian Interior Ministry, has indicated that Khalil had
not taken any action outside of the country. A spokesperson for the Syrian Information Minister, called the attack a "terrorist and cowardly action"
and furthermore he indicated that this is not the first time this type of message had been sent.
