Here is an interesting video I stumbled upon. There is some language that some might find offensive.

Basically he talks about how the democrats started all these anti-black groups back in the day, and how its insane that blacks still flock to the Democratic Party. (with a few curse words thrown around).

I admit I didn't watch the vid, but you do realize that both political parties have changed a great deal, particularly since the Depression, right?
The Repubs have always been the party more closely allied with big business, but when they started they also were the party of abolition. The Dems have been through many transformations (in their earliest days, under Jefferson, they were actually referred to as 'Republicans'!). They were the traditional party of the South after the Civil War and enerally supported segregation. After the Depression, more blacks started moving toward the Democrats, and of course, the Democrats saw a potential voting block and sided with Civil Rights movement. Hence, the evolution of blacks alliance with the Dems.
The Repub party evolved to counter this and, correctly or not, tend to be seen as more white oriented.

So, yeah, way back when, the Dems were anti-black but in the 20th century, things pulled a 180 degree turn as far as racial party politics went.

The Cigar thing was a big turnoff, hard to take someone seriously with that giant stinkmaker in their face, but he does bring up some very valid points.

Dont pay so much attention to Democrat vs Republican... Those sides have changed throughout history... Instead look at conservative vs liberal and you'll find a more consistent history of racism vs equal rights, for or against slavery, women's rights, human rights, freedom of religion... etc... Just look it up. You'll find one side consistently fighting for equality with another side resisting change and equality.

People like to say Democrats were in favor of slavery, which is true, but what they often forget to tell you is they were conservative democrats of the south.

There are and have always been racist elements in both parties. I haven't had time to watch the video, either.

One of the latest examples, though, of what the OP referred to, is Gov. George Wallace. A Democrat Governor of Alabama, in 1963 decried "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever!" and threatened to close all Alabama schools, rather than segregate.

Shortly after, Lyndon Johnson, a "Southern" Democrat, signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

So, rather than ever consider the party, when voting, always look to the individual record and listen extremely carefully to the words that come out of their mouths. It is very rare that any of these polished politicians actually "misspeak", although that is the commonly used defense. If they say, it is most likely that is what they are thinking.

I always say, when the mouth moves faster than the brain, the truth is exposed.

People really need to educate themselves.

The "Democrats" of the past were Southern Conservatives....they all switched to the Republican party after the Civil Rights vote.

The Democrats and the Republican parties of the past are not of the same political ideology as they are now. So speaking of what "Democrats" did in the past has no meaning. You should really talk about what "Conservatives" or "Liberals" did in the past and you will see nothing has changed.

More than racism: it's stay in your place-ism - Immortal Technique

Racism is the myth that masks class-ism.

Have or Have not is the truth.

Actually, that is just as much an oversimplification.
Current conservatives are much closer in ideology to the early Republican-Democrats of Thomas Jefferson's day, who were the liberals of their time.
The Republican Party of the 1850s-60s was a new party made up largely of extremely conservative pro-business interests. They didn't give a poop about the plight of slaves. They were concerned, however, with the tariff and other issues of agrarian vs industrial economies.
The abolitionists of the time are often seen as liberal darlings. But their most obvious modern analogue is extreme Pro-lifers. John Brown's modern echo is abortion clinic bombers.
The Democatic Party remained the party of the common man throughout all that. Of, course that is an allegedly true statement. In reality, both parties always were and continue to be corrupt and self serving.

Time to choose a Libertarian or a choice flavor of anarchism.

Marxist Socialists (democrats) vs. Corporatism Oligarchy(republicans)

Hmm? Which oligarchical prison system do we live under?
