Anyone else tired of members or news outlets detailing something we should all be gravely "offended" by...and then posting a link to pictures/the content itself to be spread further around the internet?

It happened recently with the "OMG HBO is broadcasting child porn!" thread that was closed down.

If you're so easily offended by such materials and believe they are bringing down our society...then why are you promoting the materials by providing links?

If it weren't for the above thread being posted, I'd have never even heard of the HBO show - now I've heard of it and I'll sure to D-VR it next time it's on, right along with Game of Thrones (which I also find morally deplorable and offensive - great show btw)

The same happens with horrifying gore/violence caught on tape or in photos. We're all supposed to be SO put off by such things and yet we come on here to show each other just how bad it all is.

IMO people posting these things get off on them a lot more than they're offended by them

Yeah I read that HBO show thing earlier...

It's like when you try a food or drink that is disgusting and you're like 'this is terrible, try it!'

I guess some people don't want to be alone in their negative experience.

When I saw the thread you were referring to I honestly thought it was about to be a thread about Game of Thrones and how incredibly scarring that series of books is.

To be honest that series of books made me realize how incredibly wasteful and destructive war is.

Anyways, the dick water bottle thing honestly disturbed me but despite that I found the accusations of child pornography kind of ridiculous

I totally agree with you and Scorpiosin on the "this is terrible, here try it," LMAO. Those in negativity or that kind of lifestyle crave those with good lifes to bring them down to their level. I can't wait to see the postings and comment on your thread.

IMO, great rant friend, S&F

Don't like it? Don't watch or read it. Pretty simple really. Whining about how awful something is and how it offends your moral sensibilities does exactly nothing. For those of us who like to keep abreast of everything that happens in this world, threads of the type you decry can be a source of information that can give perspective. Ranting about it, while your right, only exacerbates the perceived offenses. Oh, and what exactly is wrong with Game of Thrones? It is a wonderfully thought out and produced piece of fantasy that has parallels to our own sordid history. You need to toughen up and take off your rose-colored glasses. The world has been and is a tough place.

Yeah I love Game of Thrones too, that's why I tape every episode. My point was that these things really AREN'T offensive most of the time...but people say they're terrible and then provide links to them!

Makes no sense to me

In addition to your comments on Game of Thrones, I found it scarring, but that doesn't mean that I don't love it. It is just that George R. R. Martin created such a realistic and visceral world in his books that I felt it. That is what lead me to glean an inkling of what war may be like. The book series is incredible. The series on HBO amazes me as well because they actually manage to build on the books as well as interpret them very well into a visual media. The scenes they had with Robert and Cersei as well as other characters who don't have independent scenes in the books such as Renly and Loras truly do manage to add something to the series.

I got hooked on the series the first time I saw it...ended up watching the entire first season in two nights on HBO On Demand.

I've heard great things about the books - and based on the series and what you've said it definitely sounds like it's worth reading. Especially because I'm working night shifts at a hotel right now, I've def got the time to get in to it
