Some one will post another thread about some other calender... maybe even the same one. Then history will repeat itself again after that.

Thats not exactly true, something is going to happen it just may not effect you. It is a big celestial event... I believe, but don't quote me on this, the sun crosses the milky way creating a cross or according to mayan folklore tree... Like I said don't qoute me on that but it is something of that nature, it has just been a while since I looked into it.

The reason why it is herald as the end of the world is prominant for a couple of reasons... one, it is the end of the world... as in an age... According to the Mayan there were four worlds before this one... so substitute the word "world" for "age" and there you go.

The cataclysmic implications are foretold because in mayan history each of these worlds begun or I suppose you could say ended with a bang. I believe that the last one ended with a great flood... sound familiar?

Also according to a few astronomical sites in 2012 the sun does its habitual 11 yr. Pole shift. Some enthusists for the end of the world believe this will effect the poles on earth.

But more than likely it is just the end of an era...

prediction

I think nothing will happen on the date given for this prediction, There have been to many different versions on this prediction and i think it is overrated. The only reason people pay attention to it's because of the date, very similiar to the people who said 2000 would be the end. More and more people paid attention because of the Date, and i am no big city lawyer but i don't think it happened.

I would be more concerned with other predictions that you can see unfolding all around us.

Thanks

Simon

I guess they will have to write a new calender.

No, I don't think it's because of the date, we have known about the 2012 date for a long time and in that time predictions have come and gone.

The Mayan calandar ending is intriguing for several reasons. Their knowledge of the stars was quite advanced despite their complete lack of cultural influences from Europe and Asia. Their calendars are complex and accurate. It is obvious that these people valued time and events.

For the people in this thread that keep echoing, "They'll write a new calendar," don't be daft. If you don't know anything about the Mayans and their calendar, then either learn something and post it or find another topic to speak about.

The end of the Mayan calendar in the year 2012 shows that this is the end of this Mayan age, which is the 26,000 year long time period known as the Age of the Jaguar. Apparently, this age is slated to end with catastrophic earthquakes. After this age will be another age, the Age of Aquarius, but not much is written about that, that I know of.

Well, that's not entirely correct. Only 4 Mayan Codices survived the Christian book burnings. They were snatched out of the bonfire by a priest who actually had a conscience, if I remember correctly. A quick google on this leads here: www.angelfire.com...

Well it is the dawning of the age of aquarius,

(breaks out the 60s music)

Most likely we will all tranform to hippies and have free love!

But seriously, the main thing that has happened with each age change before is that everything changes, even though it may seem subtle at the time. When the age of Pices began, that was approxamately the time that Jesus was born. You can't deny that he didn't change everything having to do with religion. (Unless the crusades could have been fought over Zeus instead...) I find it odd the early christians used the symbol of a fish as their sign, Pices is also a fish....

Something else odd, The Age of Leo (A few ages ago) happens to contain the suggested dates for the building of the sphinx (As suggested by many researchers and discussed at length by graham hancock). Odd that Leo and the Sphinx are lion-like in form.

Oh well... so many odd coincidences. Whatever happens may not be noticeable at first, but I believe there will be a subconscious change that eventually will manifest itself consciously.

I was watching The Bible Code II program, on the History Channel this weekend. They said toward the end of the show, that the found a code for 2012. Apparently an astroid/comet is suppossed to hit the Earth in that year. They also said that it isn't set in stone. Apparently they found another code. It basically said that the astroid would be destroid, before it hits Earth, saving the planet. The way they put it. Is that the Bible Code was encoded, either by someone in the future, or aliens. All to warn us here on Earth about upcomming events. So that we could re-write history. So it depends on wheither we heed the warnings or not.

exodus2006.com...

Interestingly, I posted before on a different thread. About Jimmi Hendrix making the prediction in his music, that we would be hit by an astroid. A Jimi quote I posted in that thread. Refers to how, we could have used our tech advances. To save the planet from this impending doom.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

JIMI: "Someday we're going to go to the moon and find a hole big
[impact] cavern carved out. That's part of man's ego, to be busted,
don't you understand?.All they had to do is follow the vibes, just be
groovy and go on and do their thing - build this [laser satellite
defense], you know - but NOOOooo, they want to monkey around here, and monkey around there. There was a planet - how many planets are in the solar system? Nine. Now, there used to be TEN, but then, like, there's
a whole asteroid belt that's messed up now - right? If you put [the
rocks] together, it might be the size approximately of Earth. So you
can imagine some people over there [on the smashed planet] messin' with
even their own home, like we are doing now - mess up the air, digging
this out here, hacking that up, living on the side of volcanoes and so
forth. I believe there was a whole planet there, people that was so
lost that they even put rockets on the side of their planet - 'Let's
change orbits! Let me get warm!' - and blew the whole thing, because it
wasn't happening for them."

Also 2012 is the year, that Venus will transit across the Sun again in June. Some people believe, we are entering the golden age right now. Where we will experience a shift in consciousness. This shift is suppossed to last 8 years. Starting with the Venus transit of this year, and ending with the Venus transit in 2012.

Well as far as the level of interest i'm pretty sure the mayan long count end date and 2012 beat Y2k out of the water. So I don't think it's as simple as comparing it to the Y2k craze.

The end date for the Mayan Loung Count calendar isn't a prediction. It's been accurately translated. It's the doomsdayers in the states that are throwing out date variants.

You are certainly on to something there. The more someone reads mythology (with an open mind) the more they will see the strong connection between all of the worlds myths. Now if everyone all over the world were talking about the same $hit doesn't that justify giving it at least a little credibility? For crying out loud the Mayans were hardcore astronomers and in some ways up to par with modern astronomy. I don't understand why some people don't give their myth at least some credibility.

I agree comparing 2012 to Y2K is just inaccurate... They are not on the same level. Y2K emminated from fear, ignorance, and who knows what else. Thats the difference, This thing, as mentioned above, is not a prediction it is a calculation for a celestial event... how all of these things effect the earth... magnetic poles, etc... Is completely up in the air if you're interested... Look it up. Look at pole shifts... magnetic fields etc... how these things can effect the earth. Plus if the mayans said this world (era...) was going to end with massive earth quakes... definatly look into pole shifts.
