I don't argue your numbers.....

Well perhaps it's high-time you did because 22 + 80 + 34 (in bold) does NOT add up to 199

Where did he get these numbers from? Eh, never-mind. I think I've figured it out...........

You know, I am convinced there are a bunch of Lemmings lurking on ATS.

It's one thing to unknowingly post a UFO video that may or may NOT be authentic but to post numbers, out of thin air.....with no link.....that don't add up....and have the zombie Lemmings thanking the OP ...takes the cake!

Number of Earthquakes Worldwide for 2000 - 2012
USGS

7.0 to 7.9 in 2011 there were 19, it's at 4 right now ( 2012), was 14 in 2000

Note:

Starting in January 2009, the USGS National Earthquake Information Center no longer locates earthquakes smaller than magnitude 4.5 outside the United States, unless we receive specific information that the earthquake was felt or caused damage.

Many people here ready to bash the poor fellow seem not to be able to read his OP with understanding -

he compares both Aprils form the last and present year. Not years, not some strange number prophecies.

Moreover he presents his sources, however shrtly, but don't be lazy and check the both sources he mentions and it is correct.

Thank you OP and boy, some of you guys... just wow.

If I understand the OP correctly, he is showing the total amount of earthquakes for the MONTH of April in 2011 and for the Month of April 2012 (all though this April is only halfway over).

I also don't believe that his amounts 48 (2011) and 199 (2012) are the sums of the amount of quakes he listed, but includes quakes below the 3.1M level.

If we take a look at adding the numbers he did show, we'd have 26 for 2011 and 136 for 2012.

He didn't actually link his source, but he did say where his source is.

Whether his data is correct or not, I don't know, as I've not checked (I don't live in a EQ prone area, SC get's shaken up once in a very great while by the Dorchester fault line, and Charleston got slammed by a big one over a hundred years ago, but it's mostly quiet here, so I don't pay attention to Quakes too often. I mostly pay attention to tornado and hurricane threats, heh).

Indeed I do, first go to EDIS and pan down to the list of current earthquakes, not the map, but the detailed list. My data was from early this afternoon but it should still be pretty close.
hisz.rsoe.hu...

The 2011 data comes via the internet archive's way back machine, it takes screen captures of web sites. The closest they have for April 12th is a screen cap from April 30, 2011 during the Fukushima crisis. The complete url is too long to paste but if you type in the followong data in the URL box and click the blue circle on April 2011 calendar you'll get to the data.
Go to this link and enter "hisz.rsoe.hu" in the URL box that says way back machine.
archive.org...
Timeline is on top, click 2011. When calendar opens click the blue circle on April 30, 2011.
Read it and weep, literally.

Where's all the aftershocks from the Mega Japan 2011 Earthquake that happened??

Sources please.

There are a couple on the screen for Japan but you can't get detail links from the screen capture. I'm sure there are other sources with records for that day but I haven't looked yet. I documented the source links further down the thread for everyone.

Most of those wear below 4. All though I think their was more then 10 4.0's last year.
from what I gather, this little list is only for April of both years, comparing them. Interesting, but we have just had 2 massive quakes which have set off a load of other quakes. So I don't think we should be reading too much into it.

Actually that's from one day in April 2011 and one in April 2012.
As for the two large ones causing smaller quakes, you can't get much bigger than Fukushima and this years quakes are all over the map.

I'm pretty sure those numbers are.. made up. No source?

Someone will come along and post actual data, but just by watching this video you can easily tell there were more than.. wow 10 m3.1 - m4.0? Seriously?

Yea there's definitely been more than that.

Edit: I see it says APRIL 2011 / APRIL 2012, not in obvious way either.

Still, I'm pretty sure there were quite a few more quakes.. the Japan aftershocks lasted for months in great frequency alone.

You can react to the information any way you like but denying it won't make it go away.
Links to source are further down the thread.

Very interesting. You did forget one field though, 7.1 to 10.1. Not sure how many their are.
Did you add these numbers up yourself or did you get the information all ready added up from some other source? Very interesting numbers if they can be verified.
I think we had some EQs over 7.1 to 10.1 this month and the month is not over yet.
edit on 4/12/2012 by dowser because: (no reason given)

There was only one M7.1+ on today's data and none for April 30, 2011 so I didn't find that significant. As for the data I collected and counted it myself on a hunch. I got a wicked headache from doing it so hopefully someone else can do the next batch if needed.
Again, source links are further down the thread.

What am I missing here? How does 22+80+34=199? Why do I come up with 136?

So if that's wrong, I have to assume 2011 might not be correct either.

And indeed I was right. So......10 + 14 + 2 = 48

Okay, class dismissed.
edit on 12-4-2012 by Human_Alien because: ETA numbers

The gap is the number of quakes on both lists below M3.1,
Just subtract totals listed from total number of quakes from each column for the net below 3.1. I know for 2011 there were 22 but I didn't bother with 2012 because I had a wicked headache by the time I was done.

here are some links to significants from 2009 - 2012
link to 2012 so far earthquake.usgs.gov...
2011 here earthquake.usgs.gov...
2010 here earthquake.usgs.gov...
2009 here earthquake.usgs.gov...
looks like the normal in each year are the same every year not seeing anything different to be honest. in other words cant see a pattern so far ?
Not unless you want to go over these figures and make something from them

Looks like selective data mining to me. If you look at the disclaimer in the header you will see........
"Note: This is a selected, incomplete list of significant earthquakes"
The numbers I posted are verbatim comparing raw data from the same source, a source located outside the US.

that's what i was thinking.

In march we had a 9.1 followed by thousands of strong quakes..

yet according to the stats we had 2 for 12 months ? hmmmmmm

northan iran mag 4.0......... you dont think???? na they wouldnt would they?

If they did do it I would expect they wouldn't half ass it like that. A 4.0 isn't going to do very much damage at all. Now if a major earthquake hit Tehran then ATS would freaking explode with threads saying we did it

Then why the hell are we second-guessing? This is no way to make a thread? Put together some random numbers that DON'T add up for us to try to figure out just what it is, they represent??
At least throw us a bone. A link would be a good.... bone!

So let me try this now.

Earthquake Count for January
2011.....................2012

Total All....................................54..........................205

M3.1 to 4.0.................................3............................55
M4.1 to 5.0...............................16............................71
M5.1 to 7.0................................ 5............................29

Sorry no link but I got this from a very reliable source. Pardon me while I go to church and pray for our souls. I'll back whenever I get a sign or message to post again. Bless ya all.
