Jobless Claims Jump; Core PPI Up, Trade Deficit Down
Published: Thursday, 12 Apr 2012 | 8:46 AM ET -- CNBC

Jobless claims for unemployment pay increased by 13,000 last week.

Economist experts were expecting a Drop, not an increase.

G-u-l-p

The number of Americans filing for jobless aid rose last week to the highest level since January, a development that could raise fears the labor market recovery was stalling after job creation slowed in March.

Initial claims for state unemployment [cnbc explains] benefits increased 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 380,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday, defying economists' expectations for a drop to 355,000.

The four-week moving average for new claims, considered a better measure of labor market trends, rose 4,250 to 368,500.

But ...

Some economists blamed the Easter holidays for the spike in claims and expected applications to trend lower in coming weeks.

"It's very difficult to know the extent to which that's driven by seasonal effects from Easter or not," said Eric Green, chief economist at TD Securities in New York.
Well that Must be the reason .... Oh well. Just a false positive.

What will happen on Memorial Day ? or the 4th of July ?
Or how about November 6th ?

The U.S. trade deficit shrank 12.4 percent to $46 billion in February, the biggest month-to-month decline since May 2009, the Commerce Department said, as exports hit a record high.

You missed a very positive thing

That is great actually!

The economy is slowing.

The American people have less disposable income due to the high gas prices.

Inflation is also here but TPTB are pretending it's not.

If they admit there is inflation then the genie comes out of the bottle and they

have to raise interest rates. Nobody wants to do that.

Statistics never lie but liars use Statistics.
It reminds me of an old story told over and over during the Cold War. The United States played the Soviet Union in a game of basketball. The final score was US-87, USSR-65.
In Moscow the next morning the headlines read: " The glorious Soviet basketball team came in second last night in a basketball tournament, and the United States came in next to last."
Governments use statistics to tell whatever story they are pushing.
As many members have attested, we don't need the government to put these deceiving statistics out, to understand that things are quite bad economically in the US. One need only look at their own family, their neighbors, and all of the shuttered stores, restaurants and malls, to understand that this country is in a severe depression. As a result, the current administration had decided to divert attention from this economic disaster by emphasizing stories such as the Trayvon Martin case, and the war against millionaires and taxes. Yes, millionaires should pay their fair share, but doing so, won't put a dent in the deficit. This is the equivalent of the captain of the Titanic telling people not to worry, we just hit a small ice cube.
