The Art of Nothing

In July of 2001, the artist Hans Freeberling had an art opening in an empty gallery claiming to have 'installed' nothing. Many of the people in attendance came unprepared for the artist's literal inter-pretation of the show's subject matter and responded correspondingly. This film not only chronicles the highly successful opening, but includes commentary by local and international figures in the art community regarding the artist and the merit of his work, as well as insights from the artist himself. Hans Freeberling was a San Francisco based artist at the time of the making of "The Art of Nothing." His work is known in London, Paris, New York and other parts for its unconventional, explorative approach and total commitment to Art for Art's sake. Basically, some joker fills a Gallery with Nothing, and puts on a German accent! Art critics believe him to be real, and Dissect it. Very dry & funny.

Just a Little Story

This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

To carry on the process that we are discussing in depth, I sat down and really put my mind to thinking about nothing. You know what? Nothing came to mind. I can't believe how long I just sat there thinking about nothing. When you think about, I guess I got it right. I was thinking about nothing and nothing came to mind. You can't really say that nothing is nothing because doing nothing can take a lot of time and energy. You've also got to ask yourself - when you're thinking about nothing, when do you know that you have achieved it when nothing comes to mind.
