I don't know if anyone has put this up, but if not I had this in my pic area and it shows what is average for a given year as well as the records and equivalent energy release. It seems to me we're moving well above average this year. Umm.. one could almost say it was predicted.

I gotta get sleep but my thoughts and sincere feelings go out to the people in that region. I hope nothing more happens today.

NOTE - DART MEASUREMENTS ARE FROM THE DEEP OCEAN AND THEY
ARE GENERALLY MUCH SMALLER THAN WOULD BE COASTAL
MEASUREMENTS AT SIMILAR LOCATIONS.

EVALUATION

SEA LEVEL READINGS INDICATE A TSUNAMI WAS GENERATED. IT MAY
ALREADY HAVE BEEN DESTRUCTIVE ALONG SOME COASTS.

BASED ON THESE DATA THE THREAT CONTINUES FOR ALL COASTAL AREAS OF
THE INDIAN OCEAN. FOR THOSE AREAS - WHEN NO MAJOR WAVES HAVE
OCCURRED FOR AT LEAST TWO HOURS AFTER THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME
OR DAMAGING WAVES HAVE NOT OCCURRED FOR AT LEAST TWO HOURS THEN
LOCAL AUTHORITIES CAN ASSUME THE THREAT IS PASSED. DANGER TO
BOATS AND COASTAL STRUCTURES CAN CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL HOURS DUE
TO RAPID CURRENTS. AS LOCAL CONDITIONS CAN CAUSE A WIDE
VARIATION IN TSUNAMI WAVE ACTION THE ALL CLEAR DETERMINATION MUST
BE MADE BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

ESTIMATED INITIAL TSUNAMI WAVE ARRIVAL TIMES AT FORECAST POINTS
WITHIN THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS ARE GIVEN BELOW. ACTUAL
ARRIVAL TIMES MAY DIFFER AND THE INITIAL WAVE MAY NOT BE THE
LARGEST. A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF WAVES AND THE TIME BETWEEN
SUCCESSIVE WAVES CAN BE FIVE MINUTES TO ONE HOUR.

Volume is more important than height in a tsunami. A tsunami is not really a wave but a surge.

It is the body behind it that counts. Your surfing waves - and there are much bigger surfs that that as you will know - do not carry a massive body of water behind them and thus break and dissipate relative quickly.

Tsunami waves keep on going because of the mass behind them. It is not just the curly bit on the top it is the whole swell.

BBC are mentioning it. Maybe it's not as huge as the doomsayers on here thought it was going to be, it's been downgraded already since it first broke.

You can almost hear the disappointment on here that the tsunami isn't on the way.

OKay.. last post before leaving.. lol...

1720 Foot Tsunami.

I'm not sure if that would be the ultimate record but it took a unique set of circumstances to happen...

8.6?! Holy crap. I pray the same thing doesn't happen this year as a couple years back. They have had enough catastrophes. What fault line lays over there?

Initial quake was a rock break and no vertical displacement according to scientist on BBC... that is why no large wave... let's hope he is right...
