Well I was looking at the event details which was why I thought it could not be the tsunami wave passing.

That 15 second section showing an apparent 25 metre water drop looks like this in closer detail.

That is about 14 minutes after the event so at about 3000 km distance that means the wave would have to be travelling (if we call it 15 minutes) at 12,000 km per hour.

Now I am nor an expert on tsunami waves but i don't think they travel that fast!!

It is sort of irrelevant now but was interesting to take a look at.

Sounds and looks a bit curious to this layman.

I wonder what the explanation might be for such a drop???

Your expertise, BTW, is plenty professional, TO ME.

Major 8.8-magnitude aftershock strikes off Sumatra, Indonesian seismologists say.

I see nothing. Are you sure they are not referring to this being an 8.8 aftershock of the original 9.1? That would make sense.

Ignore me. It has not come through on my system. They seem to be holding it back on the automated ones.

Good Job. I agree. I am only concerned as this is the most buoy events I have ever seen across a local area if you will. I have seen one or,two even three over a wide expanse. But not 10 plus across a local area like that, after a quake. I don't understand some of the values that they come up with.
!@#@#$%^ another one 8.2

Looking at the USGS map, this quake listed
here :MAP 6.0 2012/04/11 09:27:57 1.281 91.731 9.8 NORTH INDIAN OCEAN

is only a stones throw away from the last 8+ quakes so thats three decent quakes in the same area today

They will, there just checking the info is all correct. They just get alittle worried in case its set of by mistake,.

This new shock could contain a different mechanism

All news broadcasters are confirming a second shock just a little less powerful than the primary event.

In addition, photographer on Phucket (sp) beach reports and photographs sea leaving shore.

And, I understand your perspective.

I just prefer in the midst of QUAKE issues, particularly,

to focus on those and lay aside or dismiss

SOCIAL CONVENTIONS about CAPS as MUCH LESS consequential compared to the quake issues.

[color=6699FF] e.g. we see the QUAKE data listing in ALL CAPS on the same threads from the reporting agencies and manage somehow to avoid breaking out in a bothered sweat at all--and it's just a different poster, so to speak.

[color=6699FF]I vote for gracious charity and scrolling on by the all CAPS--particularly on QUAKE threads.

Besides, even at 65 . . . I'm still learning to AVOID ALLOWING my anything to get in a dither or even unnecesarily annoyed, just because of someone else's elective behavior.

I would imagine that if we had 10 folks posting from close to the epicenter of this quake . . . there would be a variety of communication styles.

I CHOOSE to not even be annoyed by ANY of them.

I just don't see the USEFULNESS of CHOOSING to be annoyed by someone's text based posting style--even CAPS.

Thanks for your kind reply.
