I'm still not seeing it. Let's hope if there is a second large one that they both aren't FORE-shocks of something worse!

Hi Bo,

moving what size mountain how far in what time = 500 pj energy?

AND

perhaps = to how many Hiroshima sized bombs?

I am afraid I have no idea about moving mountains, I will leave that to people with faith, but I can answer the Hiroshmina sized bombs part.

Wiki used to show this information on the page about the Richter scale but have removed all reference to it. I believe I am right in saying that Hiroshima was a 20 kTon weapon but some reports say a 13 kTon weapon or anything in between. I will use 15 kilo tons as the benchmark.

Based in nuclear weapon yields the Magnitude 8.6 event today was 103,274 kilotons approximately or roughly 6.885 Hiroshima bombs.

The 9.1 was 580,751 kilotons or about 38,784 Hiroshima bombs.

Where's Neptune at so he can calm down this tsunami?

I heard Neptune got harpooned by a whaling ship in a tragic accident awhile back. I wouldn't count on him being on the friendly side as the future unfolds. In fact, all the Gods might just be in a downright crappy mood. 2012 is definitely staying interesting.

Really? I heard he was last seen at a Dunkin Donuts in New Jersey... I guess he really went off the deep end...

oh $#1T

Okay, lets keep our heads on things here.
Those numbers would be Biblical in magnitude. I smell technical fluctuations in readings we probably don't watch nearly enough to know what normal spikes look like when nothing special is happening. Just my thinking and it's a whole lot more likely than a 150 meter drop in sea level. Moses parting the Red Sea didn't manage that one.

I'm praying those witnesses aren't to close by. That's significant.

I'm in awe that there was an 8.8 aftershock.
