China is again bullying a nation and claim those islands to be their????

Chinese are triad by nature, they lie, manipulate people for their own interest.

AMERICA WHERE ARE THOU???????

China is again, manipulating, lying and blaming on the Philippines for violation an agreement to maintain peace and stability in the region and prevent any escalation of disputes.

Those islands clearly belong to the Philippines and nobody do a damn thing.

THE WORLD NEED TO KNOW.

Not to mention that China answer is ridiculous. It's supposed to shed some light on how this issue is to be resolved, but rather the two principles that your cite are treated as inviolables, thus you have the right to any land, much more than you have now by these non-negotiable principles, as evidenced by your gun-boats. The principles that form the basis of your claim to contested grounds are(1) "traditional fishing grounds of Chinese fishermen" which you buttress with ancient Chinese history as supported in Chinese historical documents, and (2) that the sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the Huangyan Island is widely recognized by the international community". But how do we first verify that the international community recognizes China's right to this island and all the other contested regions of the South China seas, and elsewhere in the world, and who in China, other that the Communist Party makes these claims? Open and fair discussions on these and other matters is the preferred way to deal with these matters, (and I hope that is what you meant by the term ‘talk’) rather than the gun-boat diplomacy and bullying that I see taking place in the South China seas in international waters. It is a wonder that you allow the Vietnamese onto their own beaches to take a swim. I have been reading, with great interest the Chinese contributors (at least as per the identifiable Chinese names) and I have found a lack of reasoning on the basis of justice, (even when historical rights are considered), since the Vietnamese, the Filipino, and Taiwanese can also cite documented ancient history as their basis of claim. If your rights to the islands are legitimate, does the right of the British to Hong Kong, and the Portuguese to Macao legitimate as well. If historical ownership is the basis, then the colonial powers should return to their holdings of the 17th and 18th century. We should then resurrect Gengis Khan's Mongolia and so on, and demand that you return to the Mongolians their land. And what of Tibet, that you stole by blood and bullets, and now are systematically eliminating them from their own land and replacing them with ethnic Chinese? What if the Vietnamese and the Filipino were to contest this legitimacy as "bogus' and no more than the land grabbing penchant of a the bully and heartless hegemon China, which by force of arms will parasitize and destroy all other peoples on the earth by its arrogance, ruthlessness, and greed born of a megalomania of which we have become so familiar in the history of mankind. No one disputes your control of the 200 mile limit from your mainland of the South China Seas, but what are you doing 1 and 2 thousand miles away?

I see no mistake in this decision of the Philippines government. It is the right thing to do; they should not solve this by flexing their little muscle (whether they accept it or not) against a giant. Instead they must have it solved through diplomatic means. They can have a dialogue with China first, then with ASEAN members, and lastly at the UN. I believe this republic has all the reasons to claim that shoal, it's their territory. They should protect and defend it; and part of that is seeking diplomatic solutions.
I see no mistake in this decision of the government; what I see is a good lesson! First, look at their economy, they belong to the lower part of the top 50 economies of the world (that's their economic standing has not yet changed), why not they find ways to uplift it. Their economy relies heavily on the remittances of OFWs who are working in this Giant Countries(giant in terms of arms and economy). I guess it is time to shift their minds in building their economy intrinsically, either they invite investors (which is the most common) or they build their own businesses. Whatever it is, it will be good if they started building, uplifting, and keeping their economy in good status. They should not only dream that they will become one of the top economies of the world, rather let them start to work to make this dream real.
Second, look at their armed forces. One of Asia's most brave yet one of the weakest. AFP (whether they admit it or not) can never be at par at China's military prowess nor Vietnam's. But that is at present, who knows if they make a change today they can be at par to them after 10 years. One of the solution (a personal thought) is by eliminating their internal strifes and rebellions. This rebels are termites that weakens their armed forces (second: corruption). If they manage to quell this rebels, they can have a chance to improve their armed forces. With a strong armed forces, a nation can defend its borders.
Third, look at their society. Changing their society, well I leave the solutions to you.
In conclusion, what happened in the past days is a challenge to this republic and to its citizen to take a look at their economy, their military, and their society. They will never be bullied if they have a good economic status, a strong armed forces, and a united society. I see no mistakes, I only see a lesson.

LOL look how small those islands are
they must be of strategic importance to china (short to medium missile range)
simply flexing its muscles as USA/Russia does to country's in their back yard (Cuba,Georgia anyone?)
Roman thinking... expand or die...
damn missile shields popping up everywhere making these country's hold less influence

wish a BIG ass UFO turned up and all country's of earth with nukes used them ALL on it
then again I'm sure somebody wouldn't play fair and keep a couple to bully the then defenceless former superpowers

en.wikipedia.org...(mostly old but some current)

en.wikipedia.org...

The Sino-Vietnamese War, also referred to as the Third Indochina War, was a brief but bloody border war fought between the People's Republic of China and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, from February 17, 1979, to March 16, 1979. The Chinese launched the offensive in response to Vietnam's 1978 invasion and occupation of Cambodia, which ended the reign of the PRC-backed Khmer Rouge. The Chinese invaded northern Vietnam and captured some of the northernmost cities in Vietnam. On March 6, China declared that the gate to Hanoi was open and that their punitive mission had been achieved and retreated back into China. Both China and Vietnam claimed victory in the last of the Indochina Wars of the 20th century; as Vietnamese troops remained in Cambodia until 1989 it can be said that the PRC failed to achieve the goal of dissuading Vietnam from involvement in Cambodia. The Chinese achieved their strategic objective of reducing the offensive capability of Vietnam along the Sino-Vietnam border by implementing a scorched earth policy. The Chinese also achieved another strategic objective of demonstrating to their Cold War foe, the Soviet Union, that they were unable to protect their Vietnamese ally. As many as 1.5 million Chinese troops were stationed along China's borders with the Soviet Union at the time and were prepared for the outbreak of a full-scale war.

en.wikipedia.org... and technicly they invaded south korea during the korean war so yeah they do get around while not as common as others they have led "invasions" in the last 50 years they also did a bit of invading back in the day (ask Thailand) but for the most part were not successfull or had what i would refer to be as Pyrrhic victories (body count vs objectives achieved)

and on the Tibetan issue... so they used to own it in their history so it belongs to them now? do we all still hail unto ceasar and ask italy where we can send troops? or the vatican? hell why not just give it all back to the mongols(they did own most of the middle east asia and parts of europe at times) now that is a country that has not invaded any one in a few centuries lets give them a shot at running the whole show for a while if we are gonna start honoring historical land rights

en.wikipedia.org... also breifly invaded india

China is dead wrong to what it's doing right now.It may be called "the South China Sea” but according to international law, by no means all of these waters belong to China, as Beijing insists. Indeed six nations claim various parts of the South China Sea, the others being Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.

Under the agreement that underpins the international law on coastal waters, every country with a coastline is entitled to claim a 200-mile economic zone from which other nations are excluded. The UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, which China has both signed and ratified, would appear to put China in the wrong. However, Beijing's argument is that historically the disputed islands and rocks, some of them little more than reefs, have always been Chinese and therefore form the boundary from which the 200 territorial waters should be measured.

The reason this matters so much to all the countries involved is that there is strong evidence that beneath 3,500,000 sq. kilometers of the South China Sea there are substantial reservoirs of oil and gas. With a average sea depth of 1,400 meters, the exploitation of these hydrocarbon resources would be easy for an international offshore industry well used to working in far greater depths.

China’s voracious demand for energy would be ideally served by such a bountiful supply of oil and gas right on its doorstep. However, by choosing the path of confrontation with the Philippines and the four other countries that have an arguable case to own parts of the South China Sea, Beijing is choosing the wrong path.

Indeed it is inviting the very thing to which it most objects, which is outside intervention of a threatening nature. Washington is of course arguing that the joint exercises planned with the Philippines navy starting April 16 are ”routine” and the fact that they happen to be near the disputed Scarborough Shoal, is pure coincidence. No one is likely to be fooled, least of all the Chinese.

However, unless they are prepared to try and face down US warships with their own, the parade of Filipino and American naval vessels around these disputed waters is likely to involve China in a loss of face. How much better if Beijing had chosen the route of international arbitration, perhaps inviting the UN to call a conference of all six countries to hammer out and finally agree on who owns what? Whatever issues could not be resolved at this gathering would be adjudicated upon by independent assessors.

China would surely gain far more from this approach than its risky strong-arms tactics. And besides, what is really more important to the Chinese — the ownership of the oil and gas or being able to buy and transport it easily to its own refineries and power stations ?

China is committed to eradicating subsidies on nonrenewable energy. When its consumers start paying market prices for this energy then, with the exception of taxation returns, it will not matter who owns the oil and gas used to generate that power.

Unfortunately this is not the only new oil frontier where angry disputes are brewing. Russia and other states around the Arctic Circle are scrambling to claim their part of another anticipated oil and gas bonanza. The Russians have even sailed two miniature submarines to the sea floor of the North Pole and planted a Russian flag. They hope by so doing to lay claim to a 1,200 mile range of underwater mountains.

Putin’s Kremlin would seem to have little to gain by compromising on what could be a significant extension of its current massive hydrocarbon riches. China’s position is very different. While it can project its economic power militarily, the greater benefit will accrue from commercial dominance, as the business history of the united States has demonstrated over the last century. Like Washington, Beijing should practice talking softly while carrying a big stick. However, as the Americans have learned repeatedly, to their cost, the stick by itself does not work.

Big deal we owe China 1.1 Trillion we owe Japan 1 Trillion. Stop thinking being a creditor gives China some sort of pull it doesn't. The main creditor is the US citizen we are on the hook for like 14 trillion. That argument is squat

How could two survey ships from China threaten the flagship of the Phillippines' navy which is armed. Anything to sensationalise this event. Some jokers here at ATS are really somewhat biased and only see things from their point of view.

The Philippines has been thoroughly humiliated and shamed by this incident. There are no two ways about it. China allowed the Philippines to inspect to see that they were indeed poaching endangered species including live sharks, corals and giant clams. Then China pretended to negotiate, while the actual poachers and loot were allowed to slip away. Philippine Coast guard claimed they could not see this happen because the two chinese maritime surveillance ships were blocking their view. Just before US Philippine joint wargame exercises, China proved that they could do whatever they wanted in the South China sea, and get away with it, loot and all. Its time for the US to step up and commit to a stronger presence in the area, or else this will become a Chinese lake, and goodbye freedom of navigation, and China will get an oil source potentially even larger than saudi arabia.

Yes...a quick look at Google maps also show that the Falklands is nearer to Argentina than the UK. Yes...there is oil and gas in the Falklands too. In the world today you are free to say what you want to, only thing is, sometimes it sounds funny/biased.

The Scarborough Shoal "RIGHT NOW" belongs to the Philippines while the Falklands island belong to the UK "right now". Big difference. China has no business to be here. Their "logic" is flawed.

This is a violation of territory and something has to be done.
