To say it doesn't gather information on the Americans is like saying mustard is not the main course, but you do like a little on your hotdog. Say, for example, there's a senator on the arms committee who interests Mossad. Al rarely uses sayanim, but that senator's paperwork, anything happening in his office, would be important information, so an aide would become a target. If an aide was Jewish, he or she would be approached as a sayan. Otherwise, the person would be recruited as an agent, or even just as a friend, with whom to mingle and listen.

The Israeli MOSSAD is an extremely right wing intelligence agency run by about 30 or 40 katsas (case agents) who can recruit loyal, patriotic jewish people anywhere on earth to help it, along with arab agents (black agents), even Palestinian terrorists. It does not want peace, but war or unconditional surrender; aided Iran during the Iran-Iraq war through mid-level intelligence agents in germany; and wanted to get rid of iraq's big army after that war, so it spread the rumor that Saddam Hussein was a madman, that he killed people with his bare hands, and that he was going to go nuclear and seize all of the oil in the mideast.
Israel did not want Iraq's big army on its borders, and did not have the aircraft carriers, nor the air power to carry out this war.
MOSSAD has been operating illegally in the US, out of Safe Houses, not the Israeli Embassy, and blackmails US Congressmen or their aides, into supporting Israel. After the Pollard affair, it said it would not spy anymore in the US, but merely changed its Mailing Address, and put the office under a different department. It operates out of Toronto and Montreal, in NY and Washington, DC.
There will be no peace in the mideast as long as the US supports Israel.
It agitated to start the first Gulf War, killed a Kuwaiti political cartoonist and made it look like Iraq did it, and has enough nuclear weapons to destroy the entire mideast, at Dimona/Machon-2.
