To all NON AMERICANS, would you feel safer if your country allowed its citizens to carry/own guns?

they just don't seem to get the fact that we don't care about what they do over the pond, that's their business.

Really? Though I know you were an exception, I certainly didn't get that impression from this thread.

Oh well, perhaps I was mistaken.

Maybe we should all go around with with explosive belts/suicide vests strapped to us, ya know, just in case we chance across a terrorist who has one?

Far be it from me to tell you what's best.

That's basically the logic used

Assuming that's in reference to the United States, how so? If my assumption was wrong, please disregard.

So it's hard to say if guns are helping peace in this situation.

Now that's a very good point! There are many other factors, besides the availability of guns, that lead to increases of violent crime.

I gave you a star on that one.

When I say social government I don't mean socialism...I mean any gdm form of governance that allows other to directly or indirectly dictate what I can and cannot do based of THEIR FEARS...

Your logic that identifying socialism is not actually referring to socialism is faulty at best, an attempt to squirm out of your statements is a more obvious likelihood. So I have to assume you are more aligned with Autocratic dictatorships, or just free reign/anarchy? The majority ruling the minority, unfortunate for you, is what democracy is based on.

I didn't call anyone a communist and addressed no partisan issues, I don't believe in the splitting of the brain and labeling your thoughts left or right, blue or red, democracy or communist...that is for people who believe in those things, I DONT.

LOL, as far as partisan issues, calling anyone who is not leaning right, a brainwashed, arrogant moron, is partisan any way ytry justify it.

Basically my post was there to tell you and the lot like you that think you have "the social" world figured out enough to tell ME how I should and shouldn't live...if you admit you don't then take your rhetoric to someone who cares.

Again, just slightly partisan, I am make no attempts to tell you how to live, I know how I live in a "soccialist" state, and how it is nothing like you infer it is, believe it or not, we are democratic, of course, like the US system, it is not perfect. Again, to your concerns about me "telling" you how to live, no, but maybe a democracy will

The asinine implications you tried to make and tie me in with people who would shoot their own friend jumping in their car because they are as you put it "afraid of their own shadow" is very weak and has no ground to stand on.

Do you really want me to quote innumerable links to stories of people like you, who fear fear itself, to the point they shoot their own children sneaking in after curfew, of people "canoeing" the heads of people they fear will harm them, simply because their skin colour, their clothes, or lack of fear at running away? Who find excuses to execute someone who in reality poses no threat?

I could just as easily fire back and say its people like you afraid of your own shadow wanting to pass laws to limit my ability to protect myself based off your WAY OFF perception that I will kill my friend if he jumps into my car...you are no less afraid then you are accusing me and other gun owners of being. We could do that silly dance all day back and forth and get no where if you wish.

Clearly you did not read my previous posts or you would have realized I am actually for the relaxing of gun laws in Canada, just not the point that everyone could feed their fear, to the point of needlessly taking lives.

Bottom line is, who the hell are you or anyone else or any NUMBER of other people to tell ME how I CAN and CANNOT protect myself? WHO are YOU to drape your world view over the top of mine? The ONLY people who believe they have the right to do so are those that I labeled in my previous post...self righteous, holier than thou, arrogant, ignorant, Utopian fools...

Those people may just be part of the great democracy, and bastion of freedom and liberty called the American people, part of that democratic process you so fear because it binds you to a social contract rather than allowing anarchy and free reign.

I explained why I am isolationist and independence oriented in my views because I don't think I have the right to tell you to NOT OWN A GUN...by all mean don't own a gun, that is your very right to make that choice for yourself and your family but that my friend is where it ends, you and no army has the right to intervene in my life, without just cause and I'm sorry but being AFRAID of what I might do with a gun isn't just cause...that is a preemptive judgement call that implies you can read the damn future...and last I checked we don't believe in that do we? Once we start passing preemptive laws we end with preemptive incarcerations based on the likelihoods and possibilities of what we MIGHT do based on fear and paranoia fueled by horrible statistics. In that world you might end up locked up before I do...

Again, i am in the process of getting the needed courses and documents to purchase and legally own guns, including restricted weapons, just because I am not for the uncontrolled owning of guns, does not mean I fear them, or don't want other people to own them. A person's attitude gos a long way to having even a little insight into the psyche, and friend, someone who fears living without a gun as much as you do, and fears anyone having any form of influence over you, legal, moral or otherwise, does raise concerns, for me at least. If you fear life without a gun so much that you would be willing to die rather than entertain the thought of going without the immediate accessibility to deadly force, you must live in a tragic and horrible place, that amounts to living in desperate fear in my opinion. It is not the owning of the gun, but the desperate, debilitating fear of not owning a gun that concerns me.

I am from the UK, and no I do not really like the idea of citizens being able to carry guns around. In fact, the thought terrifies me.

I'm in the UK and yes I definitely think the country would be a safer place if everyone was armed. I wish they would change firearm laws to something similar to the US. I would be absolutely armed to the teeth.

This is just a british love fest of shills.....
truth out i think that everyone should be trained and those that prefer to, go armed.....
So many wierd people are doing violence thats for no reason or rythme.
too many idiots want to pick fights or bully older or weaker people....
I say those that can do...those that cant or dont want to dont....
Point being, nobody should know whos armed and whos not.....concealed carry only.....
Not for hunting obviously just personal defence.
Id be willing to bet a dollar to a doughnut tha t the incidents of flash mobs and swarmings etc...will drop considerably when nobody knows whos got the gun......
Everyone would end up being far more civil and tactful, while good manners would return to society...and maybe men will even open doors for women again.....

I get tired of the ones who dont have legel arms whining about those that do....if you dont want a gun fine, but mind yer own business and ill mind mine.....

I live in Australia and since Port Arthur gun laws have been tightened to the point of Draconion however it hasnt stopped gun crime going through the roof especially in Sydneys SW.That being said I own several handguns and rifles and it is quite difficult to maintain all the requirements for my license, they basically stick it to law abiding registered users and the criminal elements get more brazen every day,so yeah i dont have a problem with law abiding citizens having easier access to weopons if thats what holds their interest

Exactly!! Completely agree.

Trayvon Martin and his killer were BOTH victims of the misuse of guns. Guns are the true problem in that case, not racism!!!!

Eliminate guns completely for all uses. Guns are for killing and humans have to evolve past such savagery.

I personally don't have a need or want for a gun. But here in Australia we already have strict gun laws, yet in Sydney we are having record shootings, mainly used with illegal, stolen or unregisted guns.
The only thing our current gun laws did was stop law abiding gun owners from having a gun, while those that want to use one for illegal activity seem to always find a way to get their hands on one.
The flip side is, and unarmed population is at the mercy of a corrupt Government, a Government that knows that it can pass whatever laws they want with little resistance. Just look at the laws passed in Australia after events like the Port Arthur shootings and the Bali bombings. And isn't it co-incidental that after both of these events, the law changes that came from these events were basically already written waiting for Government approval before the event happened.
We have an unelected Prime Minister, bringing in a Carbon Tax without a vote, yet i wonder if the prime Minister would bring in these laws if the population had guns and a willingness to protest, or whether should would of been allowed Prime Minister in the first place unelected ?

Since you have brought Americans into the conversation by refering to our having weapons to fight our government if need be. We would easily win. Our armies are made up of our citizens, who would turn their guns on the government.

Guns have been been owned by about everyone I have ever known.. If someone ask how many I have I don't like to respond because that is something that he or she could tell someone that might take it upon themselves to break in when I'm not around and take them, Besides I can't recall how many I have or where exactly every one of them are but I know where enough of them are that I'm never more than a few steps from one or more of them.... Two of my uncles were shot while working in convenience stores... One was shot 4 times by a robber armed with a .25 ACP between the 2nd shot that had hit him and the last he had picked up his .38 S&W .38 M&P and hit him 4 times and he went down. The guy was on the floor convulsing but still had his gun in his hand..Afraid that the guy might pull the trigger and shoot an employ or customer my uncle carefully aimed and administered the coup de grace with a round to his head... His robbery career was over where if my uncle hadn't been armed there is no telling how many robberies he would have committed or people he would have shot and possibly killed.... The guy damned sure hadn't gotten his gun legally, most criminals don't or can't buy a firearm of any kind legally yet they get them and will use them illegally.

Quite a story!
Little criminal rarely buy guns to rob little places, they usually steal them first.
What's the point of paying 600$ for stealing probably less than that ?

My guess is most little individual criminals with guns steal from a legal gun owner.
Black market weapons seem to be mostly for organized criminals or wealthy people that have been refused to have guns legally.

To me at least, this sounds less like concern for himself or others, and more like blood-lust, intended to make sure the sod paid the ultimate price...noting more or noble about it in my opinion.
