This site is pretty amazing. Real Time World Statistics It has some thought provoking meters on it. Like an estimated 15,000 ish days until the end of oil! Or the estimated worldwide spend on illegal drugs at $107 BILLION this year alone!

I am aware this was a thread back in 2010 but felt it should be promoted again. Well worth a look.

A crazy statistic:
11,280,085 Abortions this year
&
2,205,211 Deaths caused by cancer this year
&
876,678,213 Cigarettes smoked today which just went up another 100 while typing this

So if you add all this up, Thats ALOT of unprotected sex...

Another one that gets me is the 1.55 BILLION overweight people in the world! 1/7th of the human population is fat. That's mad. Compare that to already 8000+ people worldwide who died of starvation today, just TODAY! The dispersal of wealth and resources across this planet is so unequal.

Mind boggling figures...
Check out the amount of solar energy hitting the earth-we need to capture that for power, then there would be no need for nuclear or coal based power plants.

The rate of population increase, and the speed of petroleum use are two other mind bogglers IMO.

What we are looking at is entropy in action.

Yeah I was pretty blown away by the solar energy figure, we'd only need to capture a tiny amount of that the supply the whole planet!

The population increase one is worrying. More and more people on this little ball of dirt and water out in the backwaters of the milky way. When you think of it on the grand scale, makes you feel really insignificant...

Also did you see that there has been an estimated 118 BILLION humans alive since humans first evolved!
