Dear fellow Michiganders, tired of having to go out of state to get good fireworks? Well stop wasting your gas and get ready for an explosive Fourth of July this year,

The year 2012 it will be legal to sell aerial fireworks for the first time in the state’s history. Previously Michiganders would go to stores along the border in Ohio and Indiana where the off the ground exploders have been legal.

Site

No more driving to Ohio for "the good ones."

hip hip.....KABOOM!

Funnily enough the Dutch (well, a few of them anyway) smuggle fireworks in, usually from Belgium where the harder stuff is freely available apparently. (I don't do fireworks) Every once in a while you'll read in the paper that they either caught someone with a trunk-load of heavier grade fireworks or, they get tipped off about some guy dealing in them who has several tons in or near residential property with no protective measures at all in place. Quite often it's just the garden shed or garage.

It's a funny old world.

And bows.

Dude, check out last year's Fourth of July finale in Alpena. It was one of the most awesome displays I've ever seen.

Rocket's red glare indeed!

Yeah, I live close enough to the border to get the good deals and now that they have to compete those stores will be giving even better deals now. Finally though, we've been using them here for years, responsibly of course, so at least now it is legal. I was just wondering if this had passed so thanks for the heads up.

We lived in Highland, Mi up until 2 years ago.

Neighbors would shoot these things every night until midnight all summer.

Like being under attack from your neighbors four months out of the year.

In Saint Clair Shores, we would hear air horns from time to time. Finally figured out it was the neighbors signaling that a goal had been scored by the Red Wings Hockey team.
