Muahahaha, See, I told my girlfriend that's why I love her so much. She likes it on top. She is from Ontario.

I am of the same mindset as mentioned prior. If you live in the American continent then you are an American in my opinion. Canada is just at the top of the American food chain. Once you go Canuck you just don't give a BLEEP. (you know what that means)

Is it true Canada has health care for eveyone?

Cause I'm seeing alot of sick and disabled people here where I live in the US getting turned down for Medicaid.

Forget about trying to get disability or foodstamps.

I'm waiting myself to see if I'm gonna get turned down, I sent in a medicaid app about 3 weeks ago. Oddly enough on the form they never asked me what race, or ethnicity I actually was, they just asked (on 3 different pages mind you) if I was of Hispanic decent, or not. Very strange, I'm thinking I should have lied and said yes I am.

White and Black Americans are becoming minorities, to the amount of Latino and Hispanic. I'm still trying to figure out what the US gov is getting in exchange for giving all Hispanics, Mexicans, and Latinos (illegal or not) $$$, food, and Healthcare? Possibly control over major cocoa leaf plantations? *shrug* damned if I know. Now that the US controls almost such a huge percentage of the opium in the Middle East. The US has a strangle hold on the two biggest illegal drugs cocain(crack) and opium(heroin). Maybe they just want them to be reliant on the Goverment, then they have control over them?

Hell I dunno what's going here, all I know is I wan't out.

I'm not racist, it's just that I'm calling it as I'm seeing it. I judge people by thier individual acts, and do not pre-judge because of the color of ones skin. It's just wierd that you see so many families of Hispanic decent (forgive my ignorance about the proper terms for latino, and mexican, or hispanic races, and such) with $1,000 monthly food stamp cards, (my mother works in the local grocery store), and 7 kids. But so many single White and Black people I know, who are sick, or disable, people mind you who they or thier family members have fought and died for this country , getting turned down for basic healthcare......It's criminal.

Why wasn't I asked on this form what race I actually was? Not just if I was of Hispanic decent....or not?

Anyways, great story OP, Canada sure sounds nice. I love snow and hockey so, I think I could find a place to live that I'd enjoy.

an interesting story, however, its rife with the typical 'canada is better than america...because it is' stuff.
the only reason you know about gmo or monsanto is because of the ATS forums...
being canadian myself, id give anything to be able to live in the US..... ive no interest in canada, not the politics, not the people, not the climate.
it can be argued that canada is a great place to live.....of course anything can be when compared to china or iraq....yet canada is really no different than either of those places..
look at canadas great healtcare system....expect 12 hour wait times in emergency....
nothing is free.....the taxes are significantly higher, and are put on everything....

Ive seen how canadians regard americans.....how they talk crap about america constantly, yet waste no time in shopping there, vacationing there.... canadians think they have it so much better than the US.....yet most ppl here live in the dark....they have no idea how dark the law is up here....the real ones in power here are the non-elected officials....not the front runners.

I would have said to those americans wishing to move up here to stay down there if they value their freedom.

The gun laws are HORRENDOUS. The conservatives recently managed to eliminate the long gun registry, which was a monumental waste of tax payer money and an infringement on the rights of peaceful law abiding gun owners, but the laws which define what are considered restricted or prohibited fire arms are completely illogical. To add to this, Canadians are not permitted to carry hand guns under any circumstances, and handguns must be stored in a gun safe, with the ammo stored under lock and key so many feet away from the gun itself (it get's more ridiculous, believe it or not).

Additionally, the only time you are permitted to take your gun out of it's case or safe by law is at a licensed firing range or for home maintenance, and while transporting a hand gun the weapon and ammo must be transported separately (each under lock and key in different regulation cases).

Finally, God forbid you ever have to use your firearm to prevent a home invasion or protect yourself or your family, as you will likely be up for manslaughter charges at minimum.

As for crossing the border, thanks to 9/11 you now require a passport to do so (where previously American issued I.D would have sufficed).

While I'm not an advocate of guns but being Canadian, I do find that part about transporting ammo and weapons separately a tad excessive. Is that a real clause? I'm going to check it out. That really does sound ridiculous.

Would you be on the Montana side or the Wisconsin side(I'm in a cold place right now, not as cold as Canada though) ? If I'm cold here, Canada would be too cold, let's just say that. I bet the winters are even longer and more frostbitten than this place. I'm guessing there is a reason more Americans aren't sliipping quietly over the border to find haven in Canada. I can think of at least one, and that would be that Canada already has socialized health care and now so does the US(or on it's way now, and who knows maybe even more Draconian than yours). Two, it's colder.
Meanwhile, on the serious side, since you seem so knowledgeable on OWS, I wonder if you thought that couple were trying to escape the President's Hope and Change or if you thought the President's Hope and Change is to be escaped from? Because clearly the Prez and his cronies supported OWS. I'm really not sure why you think the World Banking system isn't systemic enough to affect Canadians? I mean your PM is just as involved in this NWO stuff as our Prez.
Now, I appreciate that you liked some Americans enough to welcome them to Canada, but what if streams of people suddenly decided to flow over possibly a million a year and flooded into all the hotels, hospitals, and all the JOBS? What if they all started collecting on that socialist health care at your expense? Would you feel the same? Would you feel the love if after 10 more years 20 million more Americans had crossed into your territory and taken whatever jobs were available with your PM and Parliament saying don't worry we will just give them a pathway and whatever other stuff they want?

So if someone crosses the border normally isn't that "logged" by the border agents? So if someone crosses "normally" but never comes back and SHTF, they would eventually come looking, right?

Just wondering from a theoretical standpoint, I'm a perfectly content and optimistic citizen and obedient taxpayer who would never question the wisdom of the United States leadership and am appalled by the content of this thread...

Yeah i live an hour from the USA, i go there to buy stuff sometimes. Food is a bit cheaper, maybe from the GMO stuff, but not like i can afford to care...

Anyways, i always expected soon as i cross the border for everything to change, from attitudes to infrastructure, even climate and terrain.

But it really doesnt, i mean, its only a little fence seperating people who live basically the exact same lives, just on different sides of the fence. Its not like i can get out of my car and point out who is American and who is Canadian, im sure the differences are bigger the farther away from the border you go, but honeslty the only difference i can see in Omak from Canada is you have gun stores and pawnshops that advertise handguns for sale, and your corner stores sell alchohol.

In short, we probably arnt as different as we think, we live the same every day lives as each other for the most part.

Thanks for sharing this story op...I often venture over to Canada. The Windsor/Detroit border is just an hour from my house. I have cousins that live in Mississauga, ON, (Near Toronto) and every time I go over its a very pleasant experience.

If I ever had to leave the U.S., Canada is the only other country I would choose to live. They have nationwide healthcare, and it works. My cousins never have a problem getting into see a doctor, or if they need a surgery, they have never had any issues.

a lot of Americans dislike america because of the moral decay and politicians.....

its like a weight scale between being a proud patriot and knowing that we are a screwed up nation.

The first time I came to Canada, I didn't want to leave. I was 19, and I came to "that trash pit" to, well, get trashed But seriously though, it was more than the 19 year old drinking age, and the cops who tell you where to find weed, and the doormen with xtacy pills for sale. It was the sudden presence of kindness and honesty I'd been looking for my whole life. I felt like I found my people, my home. I don't live too far from the border so maybe that's why. But I've lived in the US my whole life and that could not be ignored. I don't believe in running from my problems, so I will stay until either the problem is solved, or I have no other choice. As a family man, my wife and children are my number one priority, my country comes second behind them. My own happiness takes a distant third, or else I would be up there right now, in a small town, with plenty of wilderness nearby to go exploring in with my kids, and the wife if I can get her into it. She will learn to love the smell of insect repellent

Gosh, just thinking about it, now I'm kinda HOPING everything goes to essaycheyetee!

Oh and about guns in Canada, of course we have insane laws about handguns, doesnt mean you cant buy one and still keep it loaded under your pillow. Your just "not allowed"....

I can still keep a shotgun in my bedroom "legally" but chances are pretty high you will never even have to reach for it... I mean, even the few home invasions that happen here, many of them arnt armed with guns, and have 0 intent to kill unless you were the actuall target... We dont see many handguns, or even hear many gunshots, so youd be surprised how effective just pulling out a gun can be... let alone taking a warning shot.

In the worst case scenario, for example, i had a friend who collected a debt by force, then the guy who owed him the money, who he beat up a few days before, came to his house with a bunch of friends and were waiting out his window telling him to come outside (to get # kicked). So my friend loaded his "illegaly owned" shotgun, pointed it out the window at the would be attacker and litterally painted the wall with his face. he was charged with manslaughter in self defence, sentenced to 4 years and served 3. Now if he shot the guy in the leg, he would have gotten assult with a deadly weapon in self defence and gotten under 2 years, Or if he came outside and shot him again (not that he neede to) he would have prolly gotten charged with murder and gotten 10 years.

You can get off on self defence here, but its as impossable as proving without a doubt that you had no choice but to do what you did, and you never intended to kill them, and they died from only your "defending wounds"...

Another funny example, one time me and some of my friends beat the crap out of a known pedaphile right on mainstreet, my one friend was beating him with a tire iron, the cops were called and we were picked up a few blocks away and taken to the police station, where a cop talked to us about the person being a known pedaphile, and in his exaclt words he said, "if it was me, i woulda done worse to him" and then he let us all go wihout charges.

So yes, we have insane gun and defence laws, but, our cops are pretty fair for the most part, and you will be charged accordingly. I even once had a cop tell me i can legally detain someone on my property aslong as i only use "justifiable force", its just hard to justify putting a clip into someone who wasnt armed... where it seems allot easier in the US, and sorry but i dont see that as a good thing.

It's not that he thinks Monsanto is bad......they are.......look at the facts and see what they are doing.

this is true with every country...the vast majority want to live peaceful, productive lives, but, it seems that we are constantly getting screwed out of something by our own governments. the wealthy and thus powerful, suck up as much profit as they can lay their hands on, no matter who it hurts, or how much it hurts the general society.
