Maybe the people you know are collecting them but I use them daily and haven't seen any prices on goods or services rounded up nor down as a result of them not manufacturing them this year.
It would be interesting to see how many are in circulation and what the math would indicate as to when it's demise completely would be.
Personally, I think it's both a short term and long term cash grab (initially save on cost of production and let's be honest very few (if any) business' would change their prices from $0.52 to $0.50 instead of $0.55).

great story....I live maybe 20 mnutes from the border in detroit and adamantly reserve the idea that, if (mainly in America) the SHTF Canada would be the place to go. I hope if it comes down to that, that I can find your place!

Not to Nit Pick but...both Canadians, U.S. Citizens, Mexicans.....and every country in the North or South Continents are AMERICANS. North Americans or South Americans I guess you could subgroup as it says on our passports.

I have been to Canada in many capacities many times and with the exception of some areas of Quebec....find little difference between Canadians and U.S. Citizens. Being from New England...just about every family...including mine...has a Canadian Family Member and the ties between the people of the U.S. and Canada run deep....especialy when it comes to Sports...my BRUINS won the STANLEY CUP....and Military Bases and operations.

Canada...is not as diverse in ethnicity as the U.S. but it does have some diversity. As far as speaking to U.S. Tourists about World Affairs...that is as diverse in their responses as is the U.S. Population. The good thing is WE ACTUALLY LIKE YOU! Even if every family has that one Crazy Uncle or Pain in the Ass...Brother-in Law!
LOL!

Tell me...what does it feel like to be the 51st State? LOL! Split Infinity

We see a lot of Canadians down here. lot of country music fans up there, especially west (been to Calgary several times but missed the Stampede by a week - but I did see Alanis Morrisette perform there)...and we might see more Canadians when that Stanley Cup gets here

Personally I'm a rocker, but have to like what makes the money here...and it appears I may have to let go of (american) football and become a hockey fan since our football team can't get out of the main season and our hockey team is making a second run for the Cup.

I travel this country and hear more and more the discontent, the citizens are truly worried about the direction of our government. There are more and more that do not buy into the MSM disinfo and are beginning to see the light.

Always enjoyed my trips there and really like the people, couldn't think of a finer place to run to if we can't get that radical out of office this year.

To think you can run from Monsanto, the police state, or anything else you dislike is pure stupidity. Monsanto is global and many of the things you think are just happening in America are happening worldwide. There is little difference between the western countries. The problems are generally very similar.

So being "open minded" means having your points of view and being anti-American?

Now, this is a TWISTED way to answer. Try to imagine if everybody would use the same type of language. We would have a hell of a problem.

I'm not sure why meeting intelligent socially aware Americans surprises people so much? The myth that Americans are stupid is just that, a myth. It's propped up by their population density. Sure, they have a lot of stupid people living there, but that's because they have a lot of people. They have a lot of brilliant people too. Being Canadian myself, I'm proud to call them my neighbors and have them as allies. Not all of them are morons or flag waving drooling imbeciles. Some of the most intelligent and thoughtful people that I call friends are Americans that I've never had the pleasure of meeting.

Personally, I think Canadians could stand to learn something from Americans and how dear some of them hold their freedom and liberty. As a nation, Canada seems to have faltered in that area and stumbled down the slippery slope of socialism and nanny state policies which deprive individuals of their rights.

“You know about GMO and Monsanto?” they ask. Of course I do. In fact I might be the most knowledgeable here in our small town and I try to educate my customers every once in a while. “What do you think about them?” comes the question. WELL...I let them have it! “I think they are the most vile, unethical, morally bankrupt corporation on the planet.” To put it lightly...

And then the flood gates opened even further. We started talking about the upcoming elections, Monsanto, Egyptian Spring, OWS, NWO, DHS, TSA and a plethora of other topics I am so fond of. And I find myself surprised that not only do they not know as much as I would expect on the election fraud issue, Libya, Iran etc, but they are not turning away. They are eager to listen and learn.

There are a lot of Americans that would come to your town and turn it into some place that you wouldn't want to live. Some try to take charge of anything they can without respect for others and others just like to live and work and enjoy a cup of coffee with others at a diner. Can't Canada adopt the U.P.? that way we can stay here

Funny somebody just told me to get the hell out of the US & move up north. What are the gun laws up there & do I need a passport to get over the border or will a carton of smokes do the trick?

Hey its a catchy tune - i could roll with it.

The gun laws are HORRENDOUS. The conservatives recently managed to eliminate the long gun registry, which was a monumental waste of tax payer money and an infringement on the rights of peaceful law abiding gun owners, but the laws which define what are considered restricted or prohibited fire arms are completely illogical. To add to this, Canadians are not permitted to carry hand guns under any circumstances, and handguns must be stored in a gun safe, with the ammo stored under lock and key so many feet away from the gun itself (it get's more ridiculous, believe it or not).

Additionally, the only time you are permitted to take your gun out of it's case or safe by law is at a licensed firing range or for home maintenance, and while transporting a hand gun the weapon and ammo must be transported separately (each under lock and key in different regulation cases).

Finally, God forbid you ever have to use your firearm to prevent a home invasion or protect yourself or your family, as you will likely be up for manslaughter charges at minimum.

As for crossing the border, thanks to 9/11 you now require a passport to do so (where previously American issued I.D would have sufficed).
