Home Office website blocked; 'Anonymous' hackers blamed

The hacking group Anonymous is alleged to have blocked access to the Home Office website, apparently in response to government plans for e-mail surveillance.

The website has been blocked; earlier a message was posted blaming a "high volume of traffic".

I'm angry with anonymous. It's been quite some time since I heard about them, and I wanted them to do something drastic. Like wow, you have the ability to do something that the most do not know how to do, hack. And then you go to say your going to help the people drastically. Yet, where is it?

I want some major government documents to be leaked, not paypal to loose some money. I don't care about that. I want anonymous to wake everyone up! To me, they are on the front of the conspiracy team. They can do the mosts greatest things since everyone knows about them, and they tell us they can do those things. So do them! don't get me excited its 2012 now, wheres the blackout of facebook? that would really get people talking geez

But who really cares unless you were planning to use the Home Office site and blocking the site is not going to influence the governments decisions
If Anonymous want to achieve somthing they should be taking down big retail sites the companies involved would soon be leaning on the government to change policy

The Assange/Wikileaks thing has already seen the leaking of many, many thousands of secret documents of all sorts. Only the tip of the wikileaks iceburg has been exposed. The vast majority of that material still hasn't been read. We don't even know what is in there because there was so much leaked. And yet life goes on. It's kind of sad but the wikileaks fiasco proves that even when the info has been leaked, people just shrug and say "so what?" People can'T even be bothered to comb through it looking for the incriminating gems. I suspect that over time, important bits and pieces will pop up in the news. But a lot of things won't be exposed until they no longer matter.

It's frustrating...fighting apathy is like trying to move something by pushing on its string rather than pulling it.

I think if they really want to do something drastic, they should be messing with the stock exchanges.

Now that would be impressive. Or better yet, empty out the the big banks coffers and distribute the cash amongst the really poor, or maybe some legit non-profit charity organizations.

For those of yous criticizin Anonymous. I do not see any of yous getting of your backsides and challenging the Government over the Legislation which is about to be introduced.

At least Anonymous are challenging the Government and waking people up to exactly what the UK Government is trying to do. Snoop on your every daily life. If this Survelliance Legislation is passed. Kiss goodbye to your privacy.

Next they will b e installing cameras into your homes to kleep you under control.
