Iran lawmaker: Country can produce nuclear weapons but will never do so

TEHRAN, Iran – A prominent Iranian lawmaker says Iran has the knowledge and scientific capability to produce nuclear weapons but will never do so.

Gholamreza Mesbahi Moghadam says Iran can easily produce the highly enriched uranium that is used to build atomic bombs but it is not Tehran's policy to go that route.

Well, this is an interesting turn of events.

Are they purposely trying to start a war? The whole concern with the west and the UN was their ability to produce a nuke, and this guy just confirmed it.

Leaks left and right coming from the US and Israel.....
Iranian President and the Ayatollah denying the ability only to have this guy open his mouth...

Did we somehow slip into an episode of the 3 stooges or what?

Iran has the ability to enrich uranium, the have the knowledge of HOW to produce a nuclear weapon, which is almost common knowledge these days, they also have the ability to build what is necessary technologically speaking, but everyone knows that too.

ANY developed country have the ability to produce a nuclear bomb IF they wanted to.

That was not the point of the article however, the point of the article is that it is not the policy to do so, nor is it in accordance with our religion to do so. If Iran built a nuclear weapon they would be going AGAINST every religious belief she holds. And since it is a theocratic republic, upholding religious principles in this regard is most important.

Imam Khamenei even made a fatwa on this topic, Iran will never build a nuclear weapon. www.abovetopsecret.com...

I cannot understand why everyone is so worried when it is a non issue for Iran.

If you think this is about Irans nuclear program then you are WRONG

if you think this is about Iranian oil you are also WRONG

The truth is this: It is really about creating GREATER ISRAEL which extends from the Nile to the Euphrates

Iran is not within the borders of greater Israel, but they must get rid of Iran because Iran will not allow Greater Israel to be created

This coming superpower (ISRAEL) must not have any rivals in the region, especially not nuclear rivals.

If Iran was still under the Shah, then it would be a different story.

The Saudis, Turks, and Jordanians are all puppets, but not Iran.

If Syria falls, Israel will be a step closer to creating this kingdom, but then there will still be Iran.

They must get rid of Iran, the question is; can they?

my answer; they CAN NOT!

You make it sound like this is bad news, yet it aligns exactly with what western intelligence agencies and recent developments have have suggested

WASHINGTON — Even as the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog said in a new report Friday that Iran had accelerated its uranium enrichment program, American intelligence analysts continue to believe that there is no hard evidence that Iran has decided to build a nuclear bomb.

Recent assessments by American spy agencies are broadly consistent with a 2007 intelligence finding that concluded that Iran had abandoned its nuclear weapons program years earlier, according to current and former American officials. The officials said that assessment was largely reaffirmed in a 2010 National Intelligence Estimate, and that it remains the consensus view of America’s 16 intelligence agencies.c

WASHINGTON — The United States, European allies and even Israel generally agree on three things about Iran’s nuclear program: Tehran does not have a bomb, has not decided to build one, and is probably years away from having a deliverable nuclear warhead.

Those conclusions, drawn from extensive interviews with current and former U.S. and European officials with access to intelligence on Iran, contrast starkly with the heated debate surrounding a possible Israeli strike on Tehran’s nuclear facilities.

“They’re keeping the soup warm but they are not cooking it,” a U.S. administration official said.

GENEVA — Amid heightened tensions with the West over its nuclear program, Iran on Tuesday called for negotiations on a treaty banning nuclear weapons and condemned their production or possession as “a great sin.”

Again... what are you worried about? Besides... potentially every country in the world has has the "ability to produce a nuke" within a given amount of time and planning. It's a choice anyone can make and work towards

Personally I'd be more concerned with the controversial behavior of Israel... especially considering they have an arsenal of 75-400 nuclear weapons

I see we have the pros out in force.

Going from a peaceful civilian program to a weaponized program is going to require specialized equipment, specifically enrichment abilities as well as facilities for trigger testing and what not.

So no, not all countries who have a nuclear program can have a weapons program.

If the position of Iran is there program is peaceful and not weapons related then why go on record stating they have the ability to make a nuclear weapon?
