Using facebook to fight for online privacy?

Oh the irony.

The British are facing a law that lets their government pry into there emails, browsing history, telephone calls, instant messaging, and any other electronic form of communication, all without a court order, so making it legal what 'they' do illegally at the moment. Nice.

This isn't that big of a deal. People used to share rebellious information before the internet too. What intelligent being would post treasonous claims easily traced back to their IP anyway?

Yes distraction is a method for getting things done without too much dissent and comment getting in the way. I believe Noam Chomsky (a linguistics proffessor) wrote about this very mechanism only to find himself basically sidelined from the MSM for bringing this to people's attention.

IMHO Florida needs to come up with much better transparent procedures to deal with these kinds of terrible incidents, having actions leading to death just appearing to be swept under the carpet to be tried in the court of public opinion is not a good approach. What also confuses me is why is a supposed Trade organisation (ALEC) who lobbies for business friendly legislation pushing for Stand your Ground and Voter ID laws ? (I only heard of them yesterday when Coca Cola & Pepsi said they were dropping their membership, but Kraft foods isn't).

I don't know how this will work? By key words? or sites all together? I remember a couple yeas ago when surfing the net, coming upon a site I suspected as being a child porn thing. I didn't stay there or click any further, in fact, I couldn't get out of there quick enough. My impression then was, that these perveyors of this kind of stuff would have individual sites, and they would likely have some other title, giving them an anonimity. I don't remember now what I did, but I think I commented or objected to Yahoo or FBI or something, that was 10,000 sites ago easy. Still at the time I used to make up any combination of words and hit search.... just boredom I guess. I would however come across some wild cool sites. I remember once typing in Grey Matter, and coming across an amazing alternative site with cool pics and bizarre crazy unusual stuff. Abstract kind of pics and strange mysterious topics, you know, the stuff like sites one would see high strangeness, like Coast to Coast, or Cryptamundo and the like. And I also searched in this fashion looking fore clandestine spy sites, who knows, I might have come across a Mossad or KGB secret site as all the passwords are usually weird. Though I never scored a real 'spy site' or anything 'cool', I did find a few really interesting places. Anyway, if the government does succeed in censoring the internet, our freedoms will quickly follow. I think we can all see that. Obama has done the most harm, or proposed the most harm of any recent POTUS in memory, but it's been gradual and obscure. It seems to be ramping to a fevered pitch as of late don't you think...!?

S&F to keep this going. I shared this on Facebook too and it was met with...nothing. I don't know if anyone even took the time to look at it. I guess people can't be bothered with real life.

I was just wondering with a legion of amazing good lawyers in this country (USA) who can draft very specific legal documents that take days (or longer) to understand the exact intent, why do our legislators manage to come up with so many vaguely worded legislation bills ?

So this global petition site is now up to 432,000 ... it appears that word has now reached Poland, France & Belgium. Still a good showing from Spain and Italy who were dominating the signatures yesterday. I've also seen Germany, Brazil ,USA, Canada, India, Pakistan, Austria, Switzerland, Argentina, Finland, Estonia, Lithiuania, Mexico, Australia, UK, Mozambique, Greece,Netherlands,Ireland, UAE amoungst others...

If CISPA and other similar SOPBA-like laws do actually get through there will be a point where the geeks will say enough's enough and start building their own "new" internet. It's not as far fetched of an idea as it sounds..

Just like this low down efforts to avoid knowing the truth.. has started when the MSN is controled by those that
have push this agenda because they can.. Again it goes without saying.. the few control the many... If you go against that agended... Well, not looking good for you, there is a bill for that as well.

Whereas its predecessor put companies at risk for subscriber activity, CISPA rewards companies for collecting data, intercepting or modifying communications, and handing information over to the government."

You bring up a crucial point. Why all the vagueness and not to mention speed with which all these draconian bills are flying through our government? What happened to snails pace?

One answer is that they know how ignorant the majority of voter age Americans are. Another answer, there's been enough of a shift in power away from the people that they can be so bold.

I thought this speech by Ron Paul just about sums up everything (not that I think he could make a difference even if he some how miraculously got voted in), but none the less..this legislation is just more of what this speech mentions about loss of liberty for security.
