Al-Qaeda's Online Forums Go Dark For Extended Period

www.washingtonpost.com

Al-Qaeda’s main Internet forums have been offline for more than a week in what experts say is the longest sustained outage of the Web sites since they began operating eight years ago.

No one has publicly asserted responsibility for disabling the sites, but the breadth and the duration of the outages have prompted some experts to conclude that the forums have been taken down in a cyberattack — launched perhaps by a government, a government-backed organization or a hackers’ group

Strange news considering that about the beginning of April news hit that a graphic had surfaced,
supposedly found on Al Qaeda forums, “Al Qaeda coming soon again in New York"

Just an ordinary cyber attack?

Is there a connection to the recent image graphic featuring the New York skyline
posted on terrorism websites with its message in bold letters?

“At least temporarily, the social networking among jihadists has been disrupted,” he said. “The remaining forums are really struggling to attract the participation of users.”

For years, U.S. intelligence officials have relied on al-Qaeda forums to gather insights into conversations among extremists. Some officials have argued against attempts to shut down the forums, saying they provide valuable intelligence.

Supposedly...the NYPD and the FBI are "scrambling" to locate the source of the message
a 3-D image

spotted on Al Qaeda Internet forums Monday show the letters scrawled across a
city street, as a father and son stroll by in amazement.

www.nydailynews.com...

Hmmmm.........ok ETA Ok it looks like the threatening graphic has made it to
Mainstream media...strange again that there is no mention of the forum outages.

Denial of service is a bitch ain't it.

If they offered more beer and strippers to their premium members, they wouldn't have these kind of problems....

Thanks again, Burntheships, for bringing another important topic to light. I consider this news highly significant in light of the length of time involved.

Although to be honest, it shocks me a little that Al Q has such an open web presence. I can't help but feel the real stuff would be discussed on the so-called "deep web"...sites and networks not so publically accessible. Whatever they show us in public is can't be the whole story.

Even so, I'm concerned about NYC, which has never ceased to be a vulnerable target.

Yes, my first thoughts were to find word of this days ago. Like....8 days ago?
If you do find anything, please post it. Thanks!

I have double and triple checked, I find nothing.

But I also just remembered that Jet Blue Pilot, and got chills.

Its funny how the Western Mainstream News outlet have been portraying the Al-Qaeda's Online forums as Websites
sounds to me they dont know the difference between Forums or Websites for that matter.

I have an opinion i would like to add to this discussion.

If these Al-Qaeda's Online Forums are a forum then hunting down the IPs shouldn't be a problem right? i mean the anonymous have already done it in of there dark Operations.

So why not try and find out the IPs of and on the Al-Qaeda's Online Forums?

Good questions, I wish I had the answers.
Word has it a few certain rougue hackers do target Al-Qaeda sites, and forums.

So, with that said, I am sure those IP's are known.

Firstly, Al-Qaeda does not have forums.... There is no Al-Qaeda chat line, no talking with the terrorists.. lol

Secondly, there has been incidences of Sunni hacking Shi'a forums with retaliation in kind, however, the hackers always leave a fun note! So when you go to your forum, instead of your forum as you normally see it, you have some elaborate page stating your website was hacked with remarks (Usually some Quran or something) concerning which sect might be better etc

Although to have nothing, no "signature' is not anyone hacking who would be a sect of Islam

Actually, sorry I need to find it again but this is strange.

One of the forums they are saying is al-qaeda is a wahabi forum www.examiner.com... however I found this;.. pibillwarner.wordpress.com... odaddy-com/

that was may last year, but supposedly this is one of the sites that was hacked, how can it be hacked if it was shut down?

This is just one of them, but this is the first one I researched but this is not right.

In Your Face Al-Qaeda, Yeah It Was Me That Persuaded GoDaddy.com To Shut Down Your Web Forum ShAmukh al-Islam, LOL.

I wonder if that's who's been flooding the yahoo chat rooms the past few years? Just an observation, but check out any yahoo chat room and there are always many chatters talking in foreign language.

both sites they said were hacked are back up seemingly without any problems. Although both sites acknowledge being hacked, they are up now.

It appears the US wants a LOT of news concerning al-Qaeda.. to keep the word fresh in peoples mind. Something is up.

Ansar is wahabi, definitely, I have my personal opinions about them, but they are not any al-qaeda group... yeah they support the wahabi ideology, and the wahabis who do crazy things.. but al-qaeda? I guess its possible they could work for CIA... but....

maybe I just have a difficult time with this al-qaeda word association since it doesn't exist.
