An ode to my childhood

Oh for longing nostalgia I dwell
on clear winters morning frost reflecting
a bicycle my steed swiftly carries me far
over misty mountains to the forest green.

I am Robin of the hood, keen of eye, sharp of wit
my merry men brothers but for eternity finite
to do battle for something none understood
yet knew to be something illusively precious.

An hour a year a day a lifetime a year forever
yet forever came and went ever more swift
accompanied by Santa he tolls in the eon
moving ever more swiftly toward eras ending.

The present but a reflection of legend
bought forth with a smell a sound a memory
of mighty times gone by my brothers
we whom as dust now ride the four winds.
