Statistically (and putting Europe and North America in their very small context) it is far more evident that civilization is in fact outgrowing . . . . atheism / materialism.

This book: God Is Back: How the Global Revival of Faith Is Changing the World details the trend. Basically, the thesis is that religious movements around the world are using the "American Model" and relying on a free market in ideas (separation of church and state) and a customer-driven approach to spirituality.

One of the two authors is editor-in-chief of The Economist. The other co-author is Washington bureau chief for the same magazine.

when I was a boy I couldn't wait to grow up that's for sure... I was very rebellious and pretty much unaware of my surroundings, somewhat like a mindless beast not knowing exactly what I was doing here and seemingly without direction just living it up.

later in life I slowly began to realize that to have my own justice and independence from society that it had to come from somewhere, I started researching ancient tried and failed civilizations and the ones who have made it and whose come out the most comfy to live in -- (for the time being)

in my Nation we still have the right to defend ourselves from a zombie onslaught, but we opt for diplomacy to try to introduce the beast's to life in a society.

Civility must be rewarded... the Doc convinced me, and I am sure of that now because of our current zombie puppet President of the United States.

I used to be in doubt about the existence of a creator. But since i started to study math and mathematical philosophy i can't help but to believe in a creator.

By asking a lot of people different question about what i have studied, it is easy to see that most people dont understand math or mathematical philosophy.

If i ask people: If there are just 2 dimensions (1 and 2). How large must the first dimension be?

Hardly any one will know the right answer. Not even if i show them a image like this:

If i ask:
Is it possible to have the second, third and forth dimension without having the first dimension.

Most people will say; yes. Which is absolutely wrong.

If i ask people: Why do scientists say that our universe is flat. Hardly any one knows. Most people don't understand what a flat universe is.

If i ask people if there is a clear similarity between the 3 first verses of Genesis chapter 1. And the Big Bang theory. Most people will say: No. "Even religious believers".
That is because they dont understand either concept.
People don't understand, because they dont take the time to understand or test information. And most people dont know how to test presented knowledge which is given by other people.

Well speaking for myself, i didn't outgrow God, i actually grew to him. When i reached a certain point in my life, there were alot of things that didn't matter to me anymore, not like they did when i was a kid. Holding onto hate, anger and holding grudges were a giant part of what didn't matter to me anymore. When i was a child i did foolish things, when i became a man i put those foolish things away.

I realized that everyone is going to die, and that i am going to die. From there it was just a matter of making the decision to take the path were my end is no more than wormfood and all that i was never really mattered in the first place, or i become a christian for the hope that my end is just the beginning.

When it comes down to it, without Jesus and the resurrection, this life is pointless and a hopeless waste of time and energy. Without him you're better off just taking a knife and sliting your veins vertically up your arm because your end will be the same as it would be if you lived a 100 years. There would be no hope.

I think what people are outgrowing is tribalism; it just happens that some religions (mainly the Abrahamic religions) are very tribal

It’s ok to have a belief in something it only becomes a problem if you effect the lives of others because of that belief

Oh and it’s the love of money that’s the root of evil

Outgrown?
The next stage after childhood is not adulthood but adolescent rebellion.
Maybe that's a better description of the stage we've reached.

So our next step would be to make organised religion in western society illegal, remove the church and pope from power. Each religous building (including masonic lodges) in each town can be changed from church to "community centre". If people such as my grandmother want somewhere to go on a sunday, they can go and socialise with other people from their community.

Then we would want to investigate the backrounds of all government staff and officals and remove those of any religion.

I believe these steps to be fundemental in humanities recovery and advancement. Very interested in what other people think about this?

No.

Arguably, one could say it would be beneficial to rid society of religion in that manner, and would help us make progress. However, everyone has the right to believe what they believe, and no one should be discriminated for those beliefs.

~
If you want to rid the world of religion, take the more humane approach; education. Educate people, about what their holy books say, about what science says, and how it's supported. Teach people about logic, reason, and other necessary critical thinking skills. With those, most people could see past their beliefs.

You can lead a horse(society) to water, but you shouldn't force it to drink(change). No one should try to force religious people to change, but there's no harm done and getting the information out there that might cause them to.

~
Tolerance is far more important than religious differences. That is the most important.

Doesn't it tell that god made man in his image.

Thus, it was man playing god.

Short and simple!!

Most of the Christian Churches are nothing more than cult beliefs these days. They are screwed up beyong repair due to trying to merge every religion into one, including Pagan Sun worhiping and Babylon's Satan worship.

However, the Mason did study these things and appear to have arrived at the most truthfull issues on religion, and their big mistake has been keeping that knowledge secret. They know Jesus didn't die and was never god.

When the truth comes out, people won't be impressed with churches or popes. That is the end of the world for them, ending a long road of deceit, and perhaps as the world awakens per the Dec. 21, 2012 6-planet alignment deal will become that the world is enlighted to the faked up mess called the Christian Organized Religion being the Great Satan. imho

They'll discover that 6 is a "triangular number" from the teachings of Pythogorias' old school on the shape of numbers for math, and symbolic for pyramid. And 666 is three pyramid symbolism, meaning the Egyptians schools on evil that were one in the same with Babylon's.

The world would be a much better place without the big lies from organized religion's corruption of truth and greed for money, and how the endless lies corrupts man into allowing Govt to decay away from the values of the founding fathers that designed the US Govt to avoid the satanic pitfalls of corrupted religion. Most of them were Masons or Diests and they knew exactly where the corrupt issues of religion were and are today.

Most don't even have to do anything more than read the back of a George Washington Dollar Bill to begin the process of enlighenments in the Mason's tradition. The left symbol of the back of the dollar is 13 steps and the top step number 14 is most important in the Stations of the Cross Traditions. One way has Jesus survive the trauma and he never died. The other is Jesus died and was reincarnated, making Jesus a False Icon of the Corrupted Religion of Christianity today. The correct ascention for the climb to truth is Jesus was a man with good values trying to effect change on religious corruption.

One way is Hell and the other Heaven, and most Christians choose Satan's way.

It seems most atheists and nonbelievers are simply lacking in knowledge.

They refuse to see the truth presented right in front of them.

Look at stephen hawkings - one of the "brightest" men alive - the answer to all his problems - God.
Yet he refuses to believe.

Give the world a thousand non-believers, to every corrupted Christian's belief, and the world will become a better place not based on some fantasy and worship of false icon.

Key word "believe".

Key word for Stephen Hawkings "proof"

Lacking knowledge in what? Belief is not knowledge.

There is real historical knowledge of the time "mythical biblical Jesus" was supposed to have lived. Too bad no one mentions him.

A crass notion if I ever heard one. Like telling a sick person they're in Gods hands when the treatment is readily available.

Hawking is smart enough to see the truth more than any 'head in the sand believer'. And that is this: we don't understand the universe, we are limited by our human perspective, but we are learning.

The believer resigns his quest for understanding by lamely attributing the unfathomable mysteries of the cosmos to some omnipotent being, an utterly anthropocentric concept, and an absolute fallacy.

Religion is not a thinking mans game, a long time ago it was maybe, but not now, not anymore.

You're right that we didn't get created by "man" in his own image, but not right about we weren't created in the image of God. Obviously God would not be a man. But less obviously is the fact that we ARE created in the image of "God", but so is every other creature that inhabits this planet. God is light and that is the image. Now watch flowers bloom and you will see. Fingers, smiles, and eyelashes look like rays of light. Palm leaves, lilys, cats' whiskers. All in the image of God that is light. Light transformed one building block of DNA into another to begin the double helix- the structure of life's forms.

Could you accept that the universe is pointless?

No way. The universe is whatever you want it to be. We are the observers. We make our own purpose. The quality of the universe is the quality we assign to it. That is our purpose- to define the universe.

There are many religions, but one God, and all religions refer to the one.

OMG I don't know how many times I have to post this if you want the answers to religion YOU CAN get them. Go to a psychotherapist who specializes in hypnotherapy, they can take you to the place you reside in between life's. psychotherapist yeah the people who judge a persons mental health believe this. Don't believe me? I guarantee you will after one session and it will change your existence.

Nah, wrong there mate. Many religions, many deities. Monotheism is a relatively new concept. The Abramic belief systems got that ball rolling.

Half naked dude standing in the jungle, painted in vibrant colors and holding a bowl of ayahuasca says "many gods". An elaborately robbed old man with a bejeweled staff stands on a balcony at the vatican and says "one god"......which is telling the truth?

Both and neither. God is our interpretation of that which we don't understand. Its not wrong to search for mystical answers. In my opinion, the natural world as we know it is a mysterious mysitcal miracle.

When it comes to the question of a creator, even Stephen H. must surrender to the theory of philosophy. He has not yet presented any proof or evidence that "without doubt" can reject a creator.

When it comes to religion we face at least two major problems. And that is human intervention. And human interpretation. Religion might be right and true. But our interpretation and knowledge of it is all wrong. That will make religion doubt full.

Prove a negative?

I believe everything is energy. That energy evolves. That thought is creative energy.

I will NEVER call it god. I doubt Hawking will either.
