that's never a good sign
the data is on the d:\ drive but not accessible by windows

if the data is worth anything to you, I would suggest a data recovery program as a previous poster mentioned -- or a specialist that can recover the data for you

which version of windows are you running?

This is all pretty confusing. You said you formatted a partition? Which partition? I am thinking you have formatted all of your partitions. My best advice, being as what you said sounds like a virus/trojan, erase the whole HDD, I use Ultimate Boot CD myself. Choose HDD/Wiping, I use CopyWipe a lot, wipe the drive and do a fresh install.

I think you are not accessing the D: drive because when you reinstalled windows you need to re-give yourself admin status and then you will access it

Hey everyone...I thank you all for the help. Just wanted to say if I don't reply right away, I'm not being rude, it is taking FOREVER just to download Java....which it says I need to do the speed test. The java installer says 46 minutes in installing time! That's what I mean....it does not take that long normally. I clicked on ats in my favorites to come back here and it took almost 22 seconds for this page to load. I will be back as soon as I can with the results...I hope. Please check back in a bit, and I'll post the results....again...I REALLY appreciate the help!

there would be at least something showing on the d: if that were the case . . . such as folders for each previous user that stored data on that partition . . except it would be locked and password protected

ETA---OP do NOT format or repartition the D: unless you are willing to lose ALL data stored on d:

since it is taking sooo long you can contact your ISP (if they have support this time on a sunday) and they can test your connection from their end

I would suggest this, it def sounds like its your internet speeds that are suffering, give them a ring and get them to test it. In the meantime. I suggest turning off your modem for about a minute, and then turning it back on.

forget that speed test, it's going to take forever to do that =P. There are other speedtests that you can use that don't use java (try searching one in google)

What is your normal download speed KBS?
do u have dsl or cable
are u on wireless or hardwire?
have u tried a different browser? Firefox?

First of WOW shame on you people advising someone to just reformat drives there are so many options before you have to get to that

It does sound like you experiencing probably due to your internet. Do as others have said and call your ISP it will be a pain but worth it. Tell us what they said and we can go from there.

Also what anti virus / firewall are you using?

No, I never formatted the D drive, and that may be where the emachines data is....but when I try to see what's in d drive, it says it's empty....even though the graph shows it pretty full. The graph says "31.8mb free of 99.9mb.

that's mb's ?? not gb's ??
if it's just mb's then theres hardly any of the drive being recognized by windows

Yeah, then its not completely your internet. Thats pretty slow. But not slow enough that it would effect you in that way.. hmm..

I have scanned with multiple anti virus programs and malware bytes etc....all say no viruses...

It's everything. If I try to watch a video, for instance...it will paly for about 2 seconds, the buffer forever....play another 2 seconds, and buffer. I watch volcano live steraming cams, and record sometimes..... they will buffer a long time, then start to play, then freeze. I was using a screen recorder called bb flashback express. It used to record fine, but now the media player buffering and freezing thing.

it appears you are experiencing problems on & offline
the problem you're having with your d: could be the culprit

malfunctioning hard drive, corrupted partition .. ..

first things first, save your data if you would like to try & recover it
you can run chkdsk (checkdisk) to scan for bad sectors and possibly recover data

if you do not wish to save the data I would recommend using your windows installation disk to remove all partitions and create new ones . . .

the d: is likely your emachines recovery partition unless you have personal stuff stored there, and that would explain why it is so small
I would remove all partitions and split available space in half so you can store pictures & such on d: and have your windows install on c:

if none of this works, it's likely the hard-drive or memory


ETA: if you wish to keep the emachines data, do not remove the d: partition -- however removing the emachines recovery data will not damage your current windows installation

Really??? So do you think I should try eliminating the d drive? I don't want to wipe out important system info. I have to have my computer as I work from home as my second job which I NEED. Ugggh I don't know what it could be. If I still have the emachine data, I could restore it to factory settings....it should be on D, but I can't access it. that's why I'm afraid to delete that...I think maybe just all the shortcuts and links to the emachine info were deleted....how can I access that d drive? I am doing a few things at a time here, but I'm checking back every chance I get. Thank you!

sorry for any info overload . . . chkdsk will check your hard drive for bad sectors and may resolve your issue -- i'd start there
